Fair enough Thanks JERIC for answering the thread. Keep up the good work boss man ! _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |

This was a great discussion!

Before this thread fades away though, I'd like to add just a few observations as a fellow soundtrack fan and listener to a lot of streaming soundtracks stations:
1. Of the hundreds & hundreds of soundtrack stations available on the internet, I don’t know of any that ever play the entire contents of a soundtrack CD. In most cases, they choose just a few tracks - and often those are programmed to play in a loop every few days and then disappear within a month.
2. Of those stations (be it internet, radio, or subscription digital radio), I know of none that offer the opportunity for listeners to make their own requests, let alone hear it within a short time and write a personal comment on it.
3. I am pretty sure that when other station producers select tracks for their playlist, let’s say from a movie such as Ocean’s Eleven, they will choose only David Holmes’ cues, not Debussy’s “Clair de Lune”.
4. If I want to hear a work such as “Nessun Dorma” for example, and it’s not among the The Sum Of All Fears or Mar Adentro tracks, all I need to do is a quick click on the bookmark for AFM and look for it there. If a particular classical piece isn’t on AFM, chances are good it will be eventually.
5. So what if a few tracks are missing? I probably wouldn’t get to hear them on demand any where else on the internet any way. If I'm really curious, I can always try to find an Amazon sampler.
We SSTers are so lucky. We have over 3300 soundtracks to choose from. That’s almost 62,000 tracks if you count SST and Adagio together. And all for free!
That is pretty awesome by any station’s standards.

I know this really isn't on topic (sorry) but I think this is the key point about SST. An incredible array of soundtracks to choose from at will. I'm going through a financial squeeze at the moment (as a lot of us are) so it's likely to be a lean year for soundtracks for me but here at SST I can keep in touch with these scores I'd otherwise miss. I say that as Prince Caspian by Harry Gregson-Williams is playing - a score I would really like but probably won't get this year. What's more because of how prolific SST is at obtaining soundtracks quite a few rare and limited editions appear here - again soundtracks that I could never hope to keep up with under my own finances but here I can hear them. Brilliant! |

lol ... just one small correction: "Nessun Dorma" is not on AFM (yet) but I am sure it will be soon.
Mellow, you are terrific! |

You're both right on the money. I love being able to listen to such a HUGE library of great music that I couldn't afford (or keep neatly) whenever I want to!!
Hat's off to you admin/mod folks and JERIC and BQ _________________ I do not wake up with thoughts of control and rebellion, but thoughts of purpose and righteousness and the empowerment to fulfill those convictions that define me. |
