Should the chat window indicate how fast (or slow) the chat is moving? |
Yes, I might even chat more if I don't have to keep such a close eye on it |

Well, it's working in that I can actually tell now where to stop reading. That's a good thing.
Aesthetically, I agree with respondents: the cyan color is close in luminosity to the white, and close in hue to the link color, making it visually ambiguous... I'd vote for a slightly darker text for older messages. Or, use background colors, like the lighter blue color that I see in these forums could be the newer messages, the regular blue for older ones...?
Anyway, don't see that as complaint. I can really enjoy the chat more now! |

I followed two single rules:
1. Do not touch chat room background
2. Do not touch chat room messages color
I don't love blue. I don't love a specific color. I know that is impossible to please everybody.
To reach optimum results, the greater the contrast between "new" and "old" messages, the better. Also, I think that as long as "old" messages tend to be more often than "new" ones, the best color should be of them (in this case the bright white - #FFFFFF - as is nowadays).
I would not like to see a good concept to die because of a color discussion.
( sorry, i'm writting this after a tiring workday and i might be being too serious - consider the content, not the shape of the message ) _________________ I think I think, therefore I think I am. (Ambrose Bierce) |

Doesn't work very well for me... not because of the colors... which.... meh... we'll see.... but because I sit behind a firewall that caches everything .... so the usefulness is lost on me...

I had had this problem at work, AK. In my case the firewall is the ISA Server and I know its administrator like he was me Result: No cache for 24seven sites.
It would be possible to do this in your case? _________________ I think I think, therefore I think I am. (Ambrose Bierce) |

At the risk of feature-creep...
Could be an optional setting? On by default? Configure it in your profile...?
I have been enjoying the color change. It has even really helped when I am reading and it refreshes while I read, too.

The blue color of the chat has disappeared for some months now, and I thought this was because this option was abandonned.
But yesterday, I waited too long before logging and I saw that the colors were back.
Il seems that I can see the new posts in colors only when I'm not logged.
Am I the only one to have this problem? _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution |

All I can say is that I never had the problem you are talking about, masked_platypus and blue color for new posts is here all the time since it has been implemented.
So it looks like you have some problem, indeed.
BTW: Have you been trying any other internet browser to find out if the problem occurs only for one browser? _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Are you running Greasemonkey or something that may interfere with the color coding, masked?

I don't even know what Greasemonkey is
What I don't understand is that everything turns back to normal when I'm not logged. That means the problem comes not from the computer, doesn't it? _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution |

OK. Don't worry about it. I didn't see there was an option to click on in "My Info".
No, everything works fine.
Sorry and thanks everyone for helping me. _________________ There is no problem that can't be solve without any solution |
