|
Hey, folks!
So I just came out of lurking mode and was chatting with Illusion. We were joking around about "the end of the world" (which is Dec. 22, 2012, I believe), and I suggested that songs from movies and games about the apocalypse would be good for that day. He said that I should go ahead and mention that idea here.
So, who else thinks that Dec. 22 would be a good day for music from the end of the world? |

So that's three of us. While there haven't been any "no" votes, I'm guessing it takes more than three votes to make something like this happen. I honestly have no idea what the next step is, if there is one. |

Let's wait a bit to see if we get more votes coming, Servo.
Then, either there will be Mods' and Admins' decision to make it Official SST Theme Day or - together with any SSTers who may be interested - we will be able to run Unofficial SST End Of The World Theme Day on Dec. 22nd.
EDIT:

As Monty Python fan, I don't expect The End of The World being completely serious event, so I think answer is "both" _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

... If we do not make it an official theme day, you always can start an unofficial one and see if other members add similar tracks.
I will not, because it will be the start of my Around The World In 30 Days trip (Wondering if the plane can land somewhere that day)

Thanks for clarification, folks. I guess we just wait a while longer on this one.
Sirius, are you saying that you have an event planned for the 22nd? Because if so, the End of the World thing could be done on the 21st instead. Kind of an "Eve of the End of the World Celebration."
If this does happen, what songs would people like to hear? While I'm mostly thinking of symphonic tracks, I would very much like to play "It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine)" by REM. I haven't checked to see if that's on the site yet, though. I know that the 1988 film Dream a Little Dream has that song on its soundtrack album.
Also, selections from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and End of Days would be appropriate. |

Sounds like fun indeed
End of the World being quite popular in movies, I bet we have a few tracks by that name in our collection _________________ "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" - Blade Runner |

Yep!
Here's what I found in a search just for the words "end of the world" in the title (although I had to edit the titles a bit here to make them fit):
Song Title Album Year
2012 The End Of The World 2012 2009
End Of The World .hack//SIGN 2002
End Of The World Kingdom Hearts 2002
End Of The World Legaia Duel Saga 2002
End Of The World Thirteenth Floor, The 1999
End Of The World Sonic The Hedgehog 2007
End Of The World Beasts-Southern Wild 2012
End Of The World (A) Epic Score 001 Vol. 1 2006
End Of The World (B) Epic Score 001 Vol. 1 2006
Ending: Promise . . . Howl's Moving Castle 2004
Red Dust: Farewell My Concubine 2000
Showtime Pt.2 Kick-Ass 2010
Tavern At End-World Witcher, The 2007
In A New World Ghost In The Shell 2 2004
The End Of The World Angel 2005
The End Of The World Another Earth 2011
And that's not even counting apocalyptic movies that don't necessarily have "end of the world" in the title of a track. Plus, I think we can count any and all zombie movies, and maybe something like "Armaggedon" even though the world doesn't technically end in it.
Yeah, I don't think we're going to run out of choices. |

This may serve as a timely break from over-played Christmas music, at least for this year.

Ooh! I should donate "Christmas at Ground Zero" by Weird Al Yankovic to this website. That would fit both criteria! |

Event that is planned is on New Year's Eve (1st Pacific Gathering see Meetings Forum), but before that I will visit other areas of the world.
Dec 21st is already an Official Theme Day - Short Track Day. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)
