Eight of the tracks on this album are source music - songs Oliver Stone chose as background music representative of the era. Tracks 02-05 and 07-10 are not in the playlist.

Composer Georges Delerue composed a score for Platoon. But Stone had used Samuel Barber's moving "Adagio For Strings" as the temp track during the editing of the film, and asked him to use it for inspiration. In the end, though, Delerue's score was discarded and Barber's soulful work was used instead all throughout the film.

Track 11-"Adagio For Strings" (6:51) is an orchestral shortened version of Barber's original work, performed by The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. It begins with the sound of helicopters and Charlie Sheen's narrative for the first 80 seconds. We have included it because it is as defining to this film as Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries" is to the helicopters and napalm scene in Apocolypse Now.

Track 01-"The Village" (Adagio For Strings) has been removed because it is a very short version of the same work, again with the sound of gunfire and burning.
