One of the new cd's I downloaded from the Centrale Discotheek contained beside the very first filmscore ever (L'Assassinat du Duc du Guise) also the Carnaval des Animaux and a quintette for piano op.14 all composed by Camille Saint-Saens.

Music is played by Ensemble Musique Oblique.

The other one is a classic cd too: My favorite baritone Thomas Hampson
re-recorded Mahler's "Des Knaben Wunderhorn"

A late birthday gift for me:

Some folks don't know that Steve Martin is a Grammy award winning banjo player. (Actually, he's got Grammys for comedy albums as well.) I've enjoyed listening so far, and the liner notes are hilarious as well.

In Krakow I found the new cd at a low price from:

STRINGS AND STRIPES - THE BASEBALLS
Their second cd with again good rock-a-billy versions of modern pop- and R&Bsongs.

This was my latest. I only wish Bach had written more, so that I could have the pleasure of hearing her play it.

Long time ago, but now I found a little classic gem again:

CONCERTI - JOHANN CHRISTOPH FRIEDRICH BACH
containing:
Symphony #8
Concerto Grosso in E flat major
Symphony #10

Played by the fabulous Freiburger Barockorchester.

JCF Bach is the ninth son of the Big Bach. As he spend most of his career at the court of Schaumburg-Lippe at Bückeburg Castle he is the lesser known of the Bach sons.
However that gave him the opportunity to compose some great works being the Concerto Grosso almost filmscore like.

Sticking with a Bach-topic:
I took Girlfriend to a surprise-concert from J.S. Bach's 'Weihnachtsoratorium'.
Out of gratitude for this she bought me a cd with music composed and directed by our friend Dirk Brossé. (the maestro from the Ghent concerts)

This cd was made for the 2001 Rotterdam Cultural Capital of Europe program and contains a piece called and dedicated to the Sophia Child Hospital.

First piece could easily be a filmmusic score. Nice CD
