He starred in ANNIE HALL and won an Oscar as best actor in a supporting role for DEERHUNTER and was nominated for CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

the movie I'm looking for was shot back to back with another movie.
Both movies were nominated for multiple academy awards, but only this one got one in a minor department.
I'd like to know the names of both movies and the director ....

mmh, I give it a try:
The movies: "Flags of our fathers" and "Letters from Iwo Jima" (this one received an Oscar for Best Achievement in Sound Editing). Both films were made in 2006. The director is Clint Eastwood.

The song that plays on Sam's alarm clock is 'The One and Only' by British one hit wonder Chesney Hawkes.
