Wow, Istagi, I'm so sorry to hear that. It is bad news, indeed.

You're in my thoughts, and I hope you enjoy the pie.

Istagi - I am so sorry about the news. My father has prostrate cancer and it's stage 4, so I know how difficult it is to watch someone you love go through this. Many prayers and good wishes for you both during this challenging time.

Take care and **hugz**,

Angela

I am back in the office. I wish I could say that the battle is over and Jonette has won but I cannot do that. She is recovering from her double mastectomy and reconstruction. We are hoping that she will get her drains removed later today. They have started causing her some pain but there is still a bit too much drainage to remove them. There has been a lot of hope recently. The pathology during her surgery did not find any cancer cells in her lymph nodes, on site pathology is 90% accurate. Secondary pathology did find cancer cells in the lymph nodes on her right side. Left side is clear.

So what does that mean.

That means she will be forced to go through chemo, radiation therapy, and gene/hormone therapy as well.

Her chemo treatments will start in Oct. Her consultation and instruction apt is on Oct 15th. She will receive her first chemo infusion on Thursday the 18th. She will need 6 rounds of treatment administered every 3 weeks. The surgeon expected this and actually inserted what is called a power port in her chest, all chemo and other infusions will be administered through this port. We are expecting her hair to fall out at the end of Oct and all the other standard chemo side effects mostly nausea, fatigue basically she will have the flu till the end of January and into February. Her last chemo treatment will be on Jan 31st 2013.

After Chemo she will begin 3 weeks of radiation therapy. Radiation will be administered 5 days a week, Monday through Friday. The treatments are very short, less than 5 minutes. Side effects will be limited to possible burning of the skin, similar to a sun burn.

She will also be receiving Herceptin, there are no side effects and that will be for an entire calendar year. And also estrogen and progesterone blockers, probably for the rest of her life.

She is already a survivor but the fight is not over, not by a long shot.

Thanks everyone for the prayers, good thoughts and support it means a lot to me and to Jonette.

David

Hi David.

I am really sorry to hear this too, but I do know some people who have had chemo and not had as bad a reaction to the side effects as they were expecting. I hope that's how it will be for her. As far as losing her hair...tell her she'll be as beautiful as Persis Khambatta was in Star Trek The Motion Picture.

Much love and hugs to both of you during this time. I will definitely be keeping both of you in my thoughts and prayers.

I dunno, man. It's seems unlikely that you'll both be as gorgeous as Persis Khambatta. You will probably be a better actor. I guess you can shoot for... Yul Brynner?

Best wishes to both of you, that you keep up your strength and good spirits. I'm thinking and praying for you, for what that's worth.

Okay so this is kind of a repeat of what I wrote before...sorry about that but I am still wondering.

Has the oncologist said that this chemo will cause Jonette to lose her hair? I have a friend who is a breast cancer survivor and she knows someone who had stage 3 breast cancer. The chemo didn't cause the bad nausea for her or the loss of her hair. Since there are different kinds of chemotherapy now, it could be that Jonette won't lose her hair like was almost guaranteed in the past. Still the loss of hair and the nausea are definitely to be considered because you never know. Better to not be surprised.

Best thoughts and hugs to you both again. Never can have too many of those! Very Happy

Hello Istagi (David) and Jonette.

I'm sure you Jonette will survive, good medical treatments there.
Lastdomino (Ally) survived stage 4. Six weeks pre-operative medical & radio-treatment, operation,
and finishing with some months post-medication to guard and destroy possible invisible left-over bad cells.
The latter medication caused temporary hairloss.
Within 7 months all seemed staying okay, back on previous job again too.
This was finished in 2010, still okay. So you will too !

Concerning the temporary hairloss, i would suggest to take the chance of wearing some
Indian headdresses, both. A big colourfull featherset for the sunday and powows,
one lighter type for week- & work-days.

Both of you lots of strength in the temporary burdon, during treatment,
and a happy thought of being in time with starting it, seeing succes approaching.

Wishing you both a good health again, and goodlooking feathers. Wink

Haino.
