Good to rehearse our Norwegian Smile

Ah yes, den nordiske Chopin! Smile Peer Gynt is a very nice piece.

Too bad that one of my teachers, when I studied Norwegian, at culture classes fed me with bad performances of the piece by some orchestra that I had never heard of Sad

Such great music of a composer with such a turbulent life.

My visit to Muziekweb in Rotterdam got me, besides some nice soundtracks also a classic album by (soundtrack)composer Shaun Davey and the latest album by Coralie Clément.

and now completely different, albeit that the cd of Maximilian Hecker is comparable to the one by Clément as they both have some mysterious, hissy voices.

MIRAGE OF BLISS - MAXIMILIAN HECKER
(German singer/songwriter who makes so called ethereal or dreampop, was discovered after his song 'cold wind blowing' was used for the German movie: 'Alaska.de")

WAKE THE SLEEPER - URIAH HEEP
While I discovered the '60's and '70;s music in the '80's Uriah Heep somehow was only in my memory as a name written on someone's agenda or schoolbag. Stumbled across this relatively new album that still has the 'old' Heep-sound.

And after my last visit to Muziekwebplein I can add the CD:

BLACK ROCK by Djivan Gasparyan & Michael Brook.
The first one is a virtuoso on the duduk and professor on the Yerevan Conservatory and played with all the big names in worldmusic and jazz.
Michael Brook is a Canadian guitar player and soundtrackcomposer most known for his score for
"The Inconvenient Truth"
Beautiful mix of instruments and a wonderful cd to listen to.

One of my friends gave me these for my birthday:

Burn the Sky Down - Emma Hewitt
Human Again - Ingrid Michaelson

I bought this for myself:

Dark Water Rising - Dark Water Rising (I really enjoyed seeing them live - great musicianship and Charly Lowry's voice is wonderful and distinctive.)

I feasted on my credit card budget to buy me only 4 tracks on iTunes. Smile

But it was spent on a wonderful recording of Bizet's 1st Symphonie in C major.
I wanted particularly this recording of the performance by the Orchestre Nationale de Radiodiffusion Française conducted by sir Thomas Beecham, what is regarded as one of the finest of many.

As addition to my recent soundtracks I took along the latest recording of ELO frontman and producer Jeff Lynne. A cd with covers only but all with the Lynne-touch.
It was ages ago since he did a studioalbum, so was really excited about it.

Beautiful Cd for listening to with a good glass of wine and play it from
start to finish.

During buys at the Muziekweb in Rotterdam I took along two CD's from my wishlist:

Deleted scenes from the cutting room floor - Caro Emerald
My winter storm - Tarja

both are debut albums, the first from dutch singer who went to the top all by herself, recreating and modernizing the sound of the early 20th century.
The second is by former lead singer Tarja Turunen from Finnish gothic group Nightwish. Now not burdened with the Nightwish imago she explores various kinds of music that her classic schooled voice is so very much in comfort with.
