Q: cover image says "highlights from" – is there an expanded score available with more music? I have not seen this movie yet, and won't pretend I have much enthusiasm for doing so, but don't object to seeing it added here as it is a film soundtrack. However, if you're gonna get Les Mis to have Les Mis, I do notice some songs lacking on this particular edition incl. a rather glaring omission of "Do You Hear the People Sing?" There are others missing ("A Little Fall of Rain," "Lovely Ladies," etc.) which are no biggie but I'm seriously shocked that that song would be left off any version of Les Mis, Boublil & Schonberg's musical AAR, as it's one of the major showstoppers they wrote. What the?
For now/this version, I can only vote "maybe" with the suggestion to look for a better edition – or else, if Universal (?) hasn't put one out yet, to hold off on this title until they publish a proper score... probably right around the corner, after they've suckered everyone into buying this highlights-only release window CD for the holidays. |

There's no expanded ST available, from what I understand. Yet, anyway.
I voted against this, though I'll understand if I'm in the minority. I'm not always happy with the addition of musicals to the library, and this one is going to have the same problems that, say, Sweeney Todd did. The singing for the movie sounds weak and unimpressive out of context, usually, and some of the performers are just not that good. I'd give it a miss. _________________ I have a book coming out. I tend to agree with Mojo and Lady. I just saw the film, and while many of the overall performances by the actors are stunning in context, I'm not so sure the songs will be that listenable on their own. And to omit "Do You Hear the People Sing?" really is baffling.
But it is a soundtrack to a film, so... We'll leave it to the admins.

I think "Do You Hear the People Sing" was omitted because of the way it was done in the film, as a crowd chant that turns into violence. I'm not sure how that would stand up on an independent recording.
I could perhaps listen to this album on its own, in the car or whatever. But I don't want to hear it in the queue. Does that even make sense? _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

I voted no, but that was merely for two reasons:
1. I don't like musicals.
2. There was only 1 song especially written for this Miserable thing. All the others are on previous versions of albums we have on SST. _________________

That doesn't make sense. We have scores from other film versions of Les Miserables, but nothing from this musical. So there wouldn't be any duplication. |

Voted yes out of consistency (there are other musicals on SST already), which to be honest is a bit of a problem at the moment between stations such as Adagio FM or SST. Maybe clear decisions from the admins/Jeric could make things clear, at last.
(never understood why Pink Floyd orchestral versions are here, at all) |

I suspect that was just an oversight, or else the titles have not yet been fully restored from the crash, even though the update itself was re-posted. I noticed that Stand Up Guys, Charade, and other albums from the same batch are likewise missing many tracks which had been included with the original update posting.
In his FB notice JERIC said that the entire SST catalog would be fixed over several weeks, proceeding alphabetically, but I'm not sure what letter the admins are up to now or where/how the disappeared update titles fit into that schedule. But I expect we'll get these scores back again in full, once more of the db is repaired. _________________ "A day without music is a mistake." – John Williams |
