Recent visits to Rotterdam (Muziekweb) got me aside from some soundtracks from my wishlist these cd's:

NO BORDERS - KEIKO MATSUI
Her breakthrough CD with jazzfusion music by this talented keyboardplayer. I also ordered her latest 'best of..' CD but it is not available yet.

FONTANE DI ROMA - O.RESPIGHI
Almost as a soundtrack this classic piece (complete) by this italian composer from the early 20th century. Antonio Pappano conducting the great orchestra of the National Academy.

DANTE'S SYMPHONY - F.LISZT
Everyone who will read Dan Brown's 'Inferno' knows why.

My last non-ST music purchase was

13 hours of Mahler! Smile Symphony No. 1 has always been a favorite of mine.

Yeah Mahler \0/ I'm not a fan of all his work but particularly of his 3rd.
I happened to go to a concert when I was working in Geneva a couple of months, many years ago and a Dutch Orchestra was playing it.
I immediately bought the CD when back home.

Recent visit to the Muziekweb in Rotterdam got me besides a bunch of soundtracks also:

The complete KARELIA by Jean Sibelius.
(incl a worldpremiere recording of his 'Press Celebration Music')
Performed by the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra & Choir.

Very nice Dutch! I like some of Sibelius' work, but only have one or two symphonies on my personal library.

Returning to Rotterdam again (that's on a weekly basis so I won't say that again anymore)

DAVID GARRETT - MUSIC
Entertaining (electr.)violin arrangements on pop and classic songs by virtuous player. I had seen the show already but like to have his music on my iPad while I'm driving.

From Muziekweb Rotterdam I also brought 3 non-soundtracks:

MIT DEN GEZEITEN - SANTIANO
Celtic Folkrock with SST friend Sandro Friedrich on flute and tin whistle
GRANDES - MANÁ
After hearing the song 'en el muelle de San Blas' from them on a recent soundtrack this spanish popgroup appealed to me. So I brought this compilation CD with their best songs from 4 albums.
NOTHING'S GONNA CHANGE MY WORLD - BARBARA DICKSON
Highly talented Dickson (CHESS) takes on re-arranged songs of Lennon, McCartney and Harrison. Divine in sound and lyrics.

I just picked up the new P!@tD album a few weeks ago. I caught them live a couple of times last month (they opened for FOB) but this wasn't out yet at the time so I had to wait a bit. It's currently getting heavy rotation on my PC/car/phone/wherever else I can put it. A couple of tracks I really like and the rest I love, including a few I'm sort of mini-obsessing over at the mo.

If you liked their previous album, it's probably closest in sound/style to that one... highly danceable indie rock. But this album is also very retro-tinged in places so if you like '80s alternative or new wave stuff, you might like that aspect of it, too. If you're into either, I highly recommend picking it up.

New finds:

ANNY GOULD 1953-59
Nicknamed 'la Reine du Juxebox' French languaged songs by North-French singer. Very particular timbre in her voice. Nice chansons, some reckognizable as to modern popsongs.

THE GREAT GATSBY - JAZZ RECORDINGS by Bryan Ferry & Orchestra
The partymusic from 'The Great Gatsby' performed live in the movie.
Some older traditionals as well by Jerry Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong
Great to listen to.

Earlier on this page you saw my new addition from Santiano.
Now I got the gift pack from the Live concert in Hamburg, containing 2cd's and the DVD.
BIS ANS ENDE DER WELT - SANTIANO

Furthermore I picked up a notable new cd by french popsinger Étienne Daho.
Great lyrics and nice arrangements. Also with Nile Rodgers and Debbie Harry (Blondie).

(I used the censored version, the original one doesn't have the textblock but nice boobs instead)

The new Matthias Reim (German singer) CD with a Christmas bonus-CD
and a classical piece by Israelian composer Dov Seltzer (Hannah's War) with an astonishing opera-like Lament for Yitzhak Rabin.

Ummmm....

I don't think I've bought ANY albums lately that weren't soundtracks. A few songs here and there, but no albums.

When I was searching for coverart for Rahman Altin's "Butterfly's Dream" I stumbled into these albums on iTunes by YouTube megahit 'Katethegreat19' Her singles she put there earned her a contract and now two albums are out.
Her artist's name is now Erutan (anagram for Nature Razz )

RAINDANCER is her first album containing nice medieval, celtic and early music songs.
A BARD'S SIDE QUEST are vocal arrangements of songs from video games ( You should hear 'the Dragonborn comes'; bonechilling in simplicity and beauty. Even better than I've heard during the Malmö concert by a professional soprano)

Here you can see the amateur footage of the Malmoe performance Dutchbat mentioned:

That's simply a question of personal taste of course, but if you ask me, I prefer Sabina Zweiacker's version Wink
