Are they monks or brothers (friars)? Does Dutch distinguish between the two?

In dutch there is not a good distinction between the two.
They are brothers in a Monastery congregation.
But that would make them monks, or not?

Added this to my watched-movies-list.

* the hundred-foot journey
Beautifully produced new movie by Lasse Halström (Cider House rules)
Clash between a grumpy Michelin star-restaurant manager (Mirren) and
an Indian family is nicely underscored by great Rahman score 8.5/10
* Lucia de B.
True story about the failure of Dutch justice department which wrongfully convicted a nurse for murders she didn't commit. Dutch entry for Oscars. 7/10
* Fury (IMAX)
Not bad at all WW2 tankdrama with and produced by Brad Pitt.
Movie is not just trashy game-like destruction but also focuses on the mental impact the idocy of war brought to both sides .
Pitt portrays a tank sergeant who due to his time spent in war and tank forgets about the Geneva Convention. End fight is a bit too heroic IMO
Score by Steven Price who shows more of his talent than on 'Gravity' by mixing choir, orchestra and synths to a level that works very well in the movie, little less on album. 7/10

new week, new movies seen:

The best of me Another Sparks novel and thus romantic portrayal of the fact that you'll never forget your first love. Movie has same kind of feel like "the notebook" with all the flashbacks and a very unlikely ending.
Zigman scored again. 5.5/10 (Gf loved it: 7/10)
The EqualizerTelevision series put on the big screen by director Fugua. Former CIA specialist (Washington) takes on single-handed and with a lot of gore the complete Russian mob scene.Music by Harry Gregson-Williams has the same mood as "total recall" and gave good basis for the philosophic approach of the character 6/10
Interstellar in IMAX. Another Christopher Nolan vehicle which starts off as a "2001,a space oddity" re-invention that could be promising in the hands of a director with vision. Failed NASA pilot turned farmer saves the world on a spacemission into worm-and black hole. Defies all spacelaws about gravity and relativity. Loose ends put together with Inceptionlike SFX. Complete bullshit. Oh, and even though I thought Hans Zimmer couldn't do worse after Inception and Rush, well, he could.
2/10 (last Nolan film I will visit)

Holy cow! Dutchbat gave a higher rating than 7.5! This movie must be a masterpiece.

Interstellar (2014)

You can find a lot of negative and positive reviews on the web. Personally I like this kind of sci-fi. Saw in IMAX tonight, great sound.

One of the negative ones was mine Smile
But I'm sure a lot of people will like it (even before they have seen it).

throughout this week I saw some movies on TV,big screen and PC:

Not too spectacular:
* Devil written and produced by Night M.Shyamalan about the belief that the devil can take on a human appearance and cause mayham,
this time in an elevator. Fernando Velazquez scored it pretty nicely. 6/10
*Avant l'hiver the new Philippe Claudel movie, guarantee for deep psychological talks and characters. Kirsten Scott-Thomas and Daniel Auteuil having doubts over their relation on the brink of the winter of their lives. Hardly any score, few source tracks. 6,5/10
Dracula untold SFX movie that highlights the background of count Vlad and how he became Dracula. Not very historically accurate but a lot of bats Smile Score in the old Zimmer style by Ramin Djawadi 4/10
Black Death On a mission for the bishop a knight (Sean Bean) slashes his way to a village, where there would be no plague due to a sourceresse (Carice v.Houten) who can bring the dead back to life.
Christian Henson's score sometimes was lost where you would expect some music. Overall bad experience with a lot of gore and a completely unlogical storyline. 3/10

At returning to Muziekweb, Rotterdam to change my CD's I found time to visit:

An in-between movie that sets things up for the final battle, tries very poverish to get some human character development added. Very few action scenes that really add to the story what gave way for some nice quiet score by James Newton Howard. Movie can be skipped entirely, just go to part 2 if you definitely want to see the movie ending. 3/10

Yes Lady, as you remarked before there are sometimes even high scoring movies although there aren't many. Most of today's movies are quite average or less, unfortunately (or maybe better: because) those are the 'commcercial' ones.
The number of those that I can see for free or on VoD happen to be those too or I just watch them for the soundtrack, like with Dracula Untold and Black Death.
But yesterday I watched two art house movies and a DVD I got from Muziekweb that prove you wrong.

* Nannerl, la sœur de Mozart
Story about Mozart's sister Marie-Anne who's qualities as composer and harpsichordist were ignored by straightforward traditional father because she was a girl in favour of Mozart. Her friendship with the Dauphin de France and his sister would have given her so much possibilities. Direction could have been better but still was a nice story 6,5/10

* Still the water Beautifully shot coming-of-age drama by Japanese director Kawase. From Official Selection at the Cannes Filmfestival. 16 y old Kaito who lives by divorced mother and his 14 y old girlfriend Kyoko who worries about her dying mum learn about live, love and death. Reflective imagery adds to the consciousness with nature. 7/10

Couldn't find a smaller image, sorry.
Qu'est-ce qu'on fait au Bon Dieu?
Big comedy hit in France about a couple with 4 daughters who marry a Jew, Arab, Chinees and African. Winks, sometimes predictable but still funny, to racial issues. Feel good movie that has lots of grinning and laughing moments in it. Clavier is superb as Gaullist Pater Familia. 7,5/10

Today I add yet another French gem to the list:

From the makers of ' Intouchables' another great story that stars again natural talent Omar Sy and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
An illegal immigrant gets feelings for his welfare officer.
She is a volunteer at that job with a burn-out. 7/10

Dutch said i have to write reviews... so here goes nothing:

Decembers first sneak preview gave me "The Loft" which is a redo of the same movie from 2008 by the same director, only with new actors. It features the glorious Karl Urban (Very Happy in various states of undress), scott from x-men and the crazy guy from "the drop" (who already was in the original) and the Girl that always plays Simon Peggs girlfriend. I couldn't place the others Very Happy

-edit-
i made a mistake. I mistook Matthias Schoenaerts for Peter McDonald. Now that i googled it, it's quite obvious. Sorry about that

Plot:
Imagine 5 married men, sharing a loft so they can secretly cheat on their wives (which are curiously all dark haired while all the girlfriends are blonde....). The only Keys to "THE LOFT" are held by said 5 men, and really there should be nobody else knowing about that place aside from them. And then they find a dead lady in the bed of said loft. Cue to panic and a lot of flashbacks to find out who the girl is, and who killed her.

My Impression:
First i have to say, that I am NOT a fan of thrillers. Anyway i was moderatly entertained, enjoyed the acting mostly and did not see the ending coming. So I suppose it is a decent movie. Still my enthusiasm was mostly focused on Karl Very Happy
