Santa Cruz de Tenerife, December 19th, 2015.- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held on July 3rd - 11th, 2015, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, will pay tribute to the release of the 30th anniversary of emblematic works such as “Back to the Future” or “Silverado”, as well as to the French film composers.
The composer and FIMUCITÉ’s director Diego Navarro, will conduct again the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir at the monographic concerts devoted to these two main themes, which will be held on July 10th and 11th at Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín".
FIMUCITÉ has scheduled on July 10th the concert “The French Connection”, which will pay tribute to the most celebrated French composers, such as the late Maurice Jarre, Academy Award winner for “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Doctor Zhivago”, “Passage to India”, also nominated for films such as “Witness” and “Gorillas in the Mist”, and Georges Delerue, who won an Oscar for his music for “A Little Romance” and author of legendary scores for François Truffaut’s filmography such as “Day for Night”, “Jules et Jim” or “The Last Metro”.
The renowned French composer and pianist Jean-Michel Bernard, author of the music of Michel Gondry’s films “Rewind, Please”, “The science of Sleep” or “Human Nature”, and Philippe Sarde, Academy award nominated for Roman Polanski’s “Tess” in 1981, are the first confirmed guests of the festival. Some of their scores will be performed in the concert “The French Connection”, which will also include themes from other great French authors such as Alexandre Desplat (“The King’s Speech”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “Argo”).
Under the motto “Back in Time, 1985 Live”, the closing gala of FIMUCITÉ 9, on July 11th, 2015, will be devoted to the celebration of an unrepeatable year for film music, with unforgettable scores such as “Back to the Future”, “The Goonies”, “Legend”, “The Purple Color”, “Cocoon” or “Witness”.
Among the parallel activities of the festival, it is worth noting the wide selection of François de Roubaix’s films programmed by Filmoteca Canaria. This French composer, author of scores such as “The Samurai”, “The Old Gun” or “Poker d’As” and who had a special relationship with the Canary Islands, died in Tenerife in November 1975.
On the other side, FIMUCITÉ will hold the third edition of FIMUCINEMA, a competitive section that recognizes the best musical score for an audiovisual work, in the categories of long feature film, documentary, short film, and TV show. The registration to submit works produced after January 1st, 2013 is already open until May 15th, 2015, and the rules of the competition and the registration form will soon be available at FIMUCITÉ’s official website, http://www.fimucite.com.

This event, which will be held from July 3rd to 11th, 2015, is sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and the City Council of Santa Cruz.
Both composers will receive the awards during one of the most important events at Fimucité 9, the symphony concert “The French Connection”, which will be held on Friday July 10th at Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín". This concert will pay tribute to the most celebrated French film music composers and will include two symphonic suites of Pascal Gaigne and Zacarías M. de la Riva`s awarded scores.
The closing gala, entitled “Back in time, 1985 Live”, on July 11th, also at the auditorium Symphony Hall, will be devoted to that year’s memorable scores, including the music of legendary films such as “Back to the Future”, “The Goonies”, “Legend”, “The Color Purple”, “Cocoon”, or “Witness”. Pascal Gaigne
Born in 1958, Pascal Gaigne is a French professional composer living in San Sebastian since 1990. He studied music composition at the University of Pau, in France, with Guy Maneveau, and at the National Conservatory of Toulouse. He is a versatile composer who works in different fields, including the movie industry, theater, dance and concerts.
With a filmography of more than 80 long feature films, short films and documentaries, he has cooperated with filmmakers such as Victor Erice (“El sol del membrillo”), Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (“Azul oscuro casi negro”, “Gordos”), Icíar Bollaín (“Flores de otro mundo”), Montxo Armendáriz (“Silencio roto”), or Gracia Querejeta (“Siete mesas de billar francés”), among others.
Zacarías M. de la Riva
Zacarías Martínez de la Riva was born in Barcelona in 1972. Unlike most film composers, he didn’t study music at a young age. He started studies as an engineer in Telecommunications in Barcelona. An unfortunate personal event made him change paths completely. He arrived in Boston in 1992 where he attended Berklee College of Music accomplishing a dual major in Composition and Film Scoring.
Back in Spain, he started to collaborate with young directors and he composed his first scores for short films and his first feature film “Jaizkibel” (directed by Ibón Cormenzana).
In 2000, he started to work for people like Juan Bardem, Lucio Godoy and Roque Baños as an orchestrator. In 2004 he composed the first Tadeo Jones short, which won the Goya Award for best Animation short. That year he also composed the music for “The Nun”, “Beneath Still Waters” and “Spectre”.
In 2006, he met Elías Querejeta and worked for him in different documentaries: “Noticias de una Guerra”, “Cerca de ti Ojos”, and “Las Catedrales del Vino”. Since then, he has been continuously working, achieving a great success with “Tad the Explorer”, nominated for the Goya, the Gaudí and the CEC Awards in the category of best original score.
In 2014, he worked in his first American coproduction, “Automata”, a science fiction movie directed by Gabe Ibáñez and starring Antonio Banderas.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife (April 29, 2015).- The composer, born in Los Angeles, Bruce Broughton will attend the ninth edition of FIMUCITÉ as guest conductor. Broughton will conduct the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir performing some of the pieces at the Closing Gala Concert, which will be held from July 3rd to 11th, 2015, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and the City Council of Santa Cruz.
The Closing Concert, “Back in Time, 1985 Live”, will pay homage to the year of memorable scores and mythical films, including Bruce Broughton’s Academy Award Nominated score, “Silverado”, and “Young Sherlock Holmes”. Other representatives of this 1985 vintage will be the scores for “Back to the Future”, “The Goonies”, “Legend”, “The Purple Color”, “Cocoon” and “Witness”.

Bruce Broughton
Born in 1945 in Los Angeles, Bruce Broughton is a renowned film music composer, author of the score for “Silverado”, film that owed him an Oscar nomination. He is also the author of the scores for “Tombstone”, “Lost in the Space”, “The Monster Squad” and “Bigfoot and the Hendersons”, among others.
On TV, he is a ten times Emmy Award winner, two of them for his music for “Dallas”. Currently, he is working on the TV show “Texas Rising”, produced by History Channel, about one of the most relevant episodes of United States and Mexico history. It will be released on May, 25th.
Broughton has also composed music for videogames and he is the author of the first symphonic score on this field, the computer game “Heart of Darkness” from Amazing Studio.
His concert works include all kind of orchestra and ensembles compositions and he teaches music and composition at UCLA (University of California) and USC (University of Southern California).

FIMUCITÉ 9 REVIVES THE 90S WITH A SELECTION OF THE CINEMATOGRAPHIC GREATEST HIT SONGS OF THE DECADE
On Saturday July, 4th, the Auditorium of the University of La Laguna will hold two performances of the show “Back to 90s”.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife (May 11h, 2015).- FIMUCITÉ 9, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and the City Council of Santa Cruz, will open its program of concerts on Saturday, 4th of July at the Auditorium of the University of La Laguna with the show “Back to 90s”, with a selection of the best cinematographic hit songs of that decade.
Popular and critically acclaimed, FIMUCITÉ 8 tribute to the 80s led the way to repeat this innovative experience with a new repertoire. The guitarrist Gonzalo de Araoz will lead the music band featuring musicians such as Francis Díaz (guitar), José Antonio Afonso (keys), Julio Moreno (bass), Javier Guerrero (drums), Jeremías Martín (keys) and Ventor de la Guardia (electronic drums / vocal) and the soloists singers Esther Ovejero, Lorena García and Patricio González, among others.
The concert promises great performances of memorable songs such as “You could be mine”, by Guns N' Roses, belonging to the original soundtrack of “Terminator 2”; the ballad “It must have been love”, by Roxette, included in the film “Pretty Woman”; the main song of “Titanic”, “My Heart Will Go On”, Academy Award winner in 1997; the song “Love is all around”, popular version by Wet Wet Wet for the romantic comedy “Four Weddings and a Funeral”; “I Don't Want to Miss a Thing”, by Aerosmith from the science fiction movie “Armageddon”; and “Blaze of Glory”, by Jon Bon Jovi for “Young Guns 2”, among other hits that will transport the audience to the 90s with its music and movies.
The concert will be performed in two sessions, at 19:00 and 22.00 and the tickets will be available next week for €12 in the usual points of sale: Vicerrectorado de Relaciones Universidad y Sociedad (Viana Street, 50, La Laguna), the cafeteria at the Main Building at University and tomaticket.es.

DIEGO NAVARRO RECEIVES THE RECOGNITION OF THE KRAKOW FILM MUSIC FESTIVAL

Santa Cruz de Tenerife (June 3rd, 2015).- The composer and director of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), Diego Navarro, has been awarded at the Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF) due to his great involvement in the popularisation of film music, his laudable work in contributing to the cooperation between the two festivals and the creation of new audio-visual projects of international significance, as the Award Jury emphasised. The director of the Krakow Festival Office, Izabela Helbin, emphasised the “special role Diego Navarro has played in the popularisation and development of knowledge about this field of music and contribution to the development of this important sector of the audio-visual industry”.
As Robert Piaskowski, artistic director of the FMF and habitual guest at FIMUCITÉ, said, “the FMF Ambassador is a person or institution which allows us to draw closer to the global world of music and film, favoring the achievement of the festival’s long-term goals. Diego Navarro is definitely such a person, along with the entire FIMUCITÉ team”. For Navarro, “this is a great honor and a symbol of twinning and friendship, and not only between the two festivals”. The Canary Islands composer feels pleased and proud of being recognized in what he considers to be his second home, Krakow, and assures that “this award will always be in my heart”.
The first FMF Ambassador Award was given in 2014 to Nancy Knutsen, former head of the Membership Department for Film and Television at ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, and the long-time assistant of the Academy Award-winning composer, John Williams.
Additionally, Diego Navarro participated again as guest conductor at the 8th Film Music Festival in Krakow. Thus, on Saturday 30th May, Navarro conducted the Krakow Symphony Orchestra and the National Radio Choir at the spectacular Krakow Arena in a programme devoted to the music for TV series such as “Game of Thrones”, “The Borgia”, “Vikings”, “Lost”, “Downton Abbey”, “Dexter” and “House of Cards”, among others. The concert became the event which had more audience at this edition of the FMF, with more than 12,000 people attending.

Ludovic Bource
The Academy Award-winning composer for “The Artist”, Ludovic Bource, studied at the National School of Music de Brittany and at the CIM (The Parisian Jazz School). He began his career composing the music for commercials and scoring short films as well as producing French pop, hip hop and electronic music albums.
The director Michel Hazanavicius commissioned him to compose the scores for the films “Mes amis”, in 1999, “OSS 117: Le Caire, nid d’espions”, in 2006, and its sequel “OSS 117, Rio ne répond plus”, in 2009. That year he also wrote the score for the documentary “Here to stay”, directed by Pierre Barougier and Olivier Bourgeois. Bource worked again with Hazamavicius in 2011, when he wrote the score for “The Artist”, which was acclaimed by the reviewers and won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Bafta.
Ludovic Bource was named a Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters) for his contribution to culture in France. His score for “The Artist” is a Sony Music platinum selling CD and is available on iTunes. A gifted pianist, Bource is touring the world, performing “The Artist: Live in Concert”.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, July 2nd, 2015.- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) starts up this Friday 3rd with a week plenty of fabulous concerts and parallel activities. The inauguration will be held at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes on Friday at 19:30. After which, the Canarian short film “La Trompeta” and the Polish feature film Bogowie” will be screened. Both productions contend in the official competitive section of the festival, FIMUCINEMA, for the Alex North Award for Best Original Score in a Feature Film and the FIMUCINEMA Awards for Best Score in a Short Film and for Best Documentary Score, as well as the Best Original Song. FIMUCITÉ IX is sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Teleférico del Teide, Canary Islands Government Turismo de Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Fundación SGAE and RTVE.
“La Trompeta” is an animated short film directed by Andrés Nieves and a score composed by Christian Johansen, winner of the Jury Award Animazine at the 18th edition of the Málaga Spanish Film Festival. The film tells the story of a famous jazz trumpet player in the Happy 20s. “Bogowie”, with a score written by Bartosz Chajdecki, is based on the real story of Lukasz Palkowski and professor Zbigniew Religa, the first doctor who did a successful heart transplant in Poland in the 80s. These films can be seen again at TEA on Saturday, July 4th, at 20:00. Invitations for the screenings can be collected at the box office.
That Saturday, at 18:00, the short film “Entretelas” by Luis Sánchez-Polack and music of Luis Hernaizwill be screened,; together with the Polish feature film “Life feels good”, directed by Maciej Pieprzyca and scored by Bartosz Chajdecki. “Entretelas” states that fate is ruled by three sisters: Clotho, Atropos and Lachesis. The latter, sick of the fact that men do not accept their destiny, has decided to put an end to the world. But the ways of love are inscrutable.“Life feels good” tells the story of a young man with cerebral palsy, who has been admitted to a mental institution to evaluate his degree of disability.
Furthermore, that same Saturday, the Auditorium at the University of La laguna will host the first of the concerts celebrated in FIMUCITÉ, “Back to the 90's”, a show where The Pop Culture Band will make the public live the 90s through the best film songs of that decade. The concert will be performed in two sessions: at 19:00 and at 22:00. Tickets are already on sale, at www.tomaticket.com. The day of the event, tickets can be bought at the box office of the Auditorium at the University of La laguna an hour before the beginning of the concert.
On Sunday, July 5th, at 18:00, also at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, the short film “El xow”, about the restaurant Diverxo, co-directed by chef David Muñoz and Marc Ortiz, and scored by Luis Hernaizit will be screened, followed by the documentary “Modernos. Teatro de vanguardia en Canarias”, directed by Jairo López with music composed by Javier Afonso. The French short film “Les vents des regrets” and the feature film “Las manos” will be showed at 20:00. Directed by Olivier Vidal and Sébastien Maggiani, scored by Iván Palomares and starred by Alain Depardieu, “Les vents des regrets” takes us to May 1985 to tell the story of Eugène after being released from prison and his encounter with a teenager who will reveal words and regrets.
The concerts and parallel activities programme will end on July 11th, at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín” with FIMUCITÉ’s Closing Night Gala. This concert, “Back in time, 1985 Live!”, will celebrate a unique year for film music with unforgettable scores such as “Back to the Future”, “The Goonies”, “Legend”, “The Color Purple”, “Cocoon”, and “Witness”. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, the Tenerife Film Choir and the Children’s Choir of the Conservatory, directed by Diego Navarro and with the choirmasters Javier Jonás Díaz and Juan Ramón Vinagre, will perform a historic journey through the most renowned scores of the French cinema. FIMUCITÉ IX is sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Teleférico del Teide, Canary Islands Government Turismo de Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Fundación SGAE and RTVE.
The event will pay tribute to the most renowned French composers such as the late Georges Delerue and Maurice Jarre. The first musician scored the legendary François Truffaut’s films “Day for Night”, “Jules and Jim”, and “The Last Metro”, whereas the second one composed the music for “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Prince and the Pauper” and “Dr. Zhivago”.
Furthermore, the repertoire includes pieces from the French guest composers Jean-Michel Bernard, author of the music for Michel Gondry’s films “Be kind, rewind”, “The Science of Sleep” and “Human Nature”, Philippe Sarde, Academy Award nominee for Roman Polanski’s “Tess” in 1981, and Ludovic Bource, The Academy Award winner in 2012 for his score for the film “The Artist”.
The soloist Kimiko Ono, will sing the theme “Here with you” from the film “Human Nature”, and the Canarian soloist Fran León will perform “Mr. Fletcher Theme” from “Be kind, rewind”.
The programme, in which the instrumentalists Victoria Carlisle (solo harp) and Juan Cantero (panpipe) will participate, will be completed with the scores for the Academy Award winner film “Love Story” and “A Man and a Woman”, from Francis Lai; “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg”, from Michel Legrand, also three times Academy Award winner; and Academy Award winner masterpiece, “The Grand Budapest Hotel”, from Alexandre Desplat, who won this award after being nominated seven times.
At the beginning of the concert “The French Connection”, FIMUCITÉ will host the award ceremony of the IX Spanish Film Music Critics Awards, organised by the website Scoremagacine.com. Afterwards, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir, conducted by Diego Navarro, will perform the scores of the two award-winners: Pascal Gaigne (Best National Composer for his music for the film “Loreak”) and Zacarías M. De La Riva (Best Spanish Score 2014 for “Autómata”).
WORLD PREMIERE OF THE "MAIN THEME" FOR THE FILM “CAPTURE THE FLAG” AT FIMUCITÉ
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, July 10nd, 2015.- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival will host the premiere of the “Main Theme" of the score for the film “Capture the Flag”, conducted by Diego Navarro and performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, with the Tenerife Film Choir and the Children’s Choir of the Conservatoire of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The concert will be held at Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín on Friday 11th, at 20:00, at the Closing Night Gala of FIMUCITÉ IX.
That same day, and within the parallel activities of the Festival, a preview of “Capture the Flag” will be screened. Nico Matji, producer of the film, and Diego Navarro, composer of the score and responsible for the recording with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, will attend the presentation and the Q&A afterward. The event will be held at TEA (Tenerife Espacio de las Artes) at 17:00.
“Capture the Flag” has been produced by TELECINCO CINEMA, TELEFÓNICA STUDIOS, 4 CATS PICTURES and LOS ROCKETS LA PELÍCULA AIE with the participation of MEDIASET ESPAÑA, MOVISTAR + and the collaboration of AMC Networks International Iberia and ANANGU. The film has been made by LIGHTBOX ANIMATION STUDIOS and distributed by PARAMOUNT PICTURES SPAIN.
“Capture the Flag” will be premiered on August 28th.

FIMUCITÉ SAYS GOODBYE UNTIL 2016 WITH GREAT SUCCESS
Pascal Gaigne won the Alex North Award for Best Original Score in a Feature Film for “Theo's House”, within the festival’s official competitive section.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife, July 14th, 2015.- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Teleférico del Teide, Canary Islands Government Turismo de Tenerife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Fundación SGAE and RTVE, concluded its ninth edition last Saturday, July 11th, with an applause of more than 5,000 spectators attending the concerts and parallel activities of the festival. Once again, Tenerife has become the world capital of film music, with the participation of the national composers Antón García Abril, Pascal Gaigne and Zacarías M. de la Riva, and the international Bruce Broughton, Ludovic Bource, Jean-Michel Bernard, Kimiko Ono, Sara Andon and Robert Townson, among many others.
The great closing gala, sold out five days before its celebration, was honored by the attendance of the president of the Cabildo, Carlos Alonso. "Back in time, 1985, live!" offered a repertoire dedicated to a unique year for film music at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”. This concert, hosted by Ana Molowny, became the icing on the cake of nine intense days of festival. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife (OST), the Tenerife Film Choir and the Children’s Choir of the Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, played the memorable scores for "Back to the Future," "The Goonies," "Legend", "The Color Purple", "Ladyhawke", "Cocoon" or "Witness", among others, under the baton of FIMUCITÉ’s director, Diego Navarro, and Bruce Broughton, who conducted his music for "Young Sherlock Holmes" and "Silverado"..
Moreover, this concert began with an out-of-program gift, the world premiere of the main theme of the score for the animated film “Capture the Flag”, composed by Diego Navarro. The movie will be released on August 28th.
The gala included also the reading of the list of winners of the festival’s official competitive section FIMUCINEMA, directed by Manuel Díaz Noda, and the ceremony of the Alex North Award for Best Original Score in a Feature Film, given to the composer Pascal Gaigne for his work for the Finnish film “Theo's House”, directed by Rax Rinnekangas.
Film music lovers could also enjoy the other concerts programmed, starting with the best film songs of the 90s in the Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna with "Back to the 90s", continued with a concert at Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Arona in honor of the composer François De Roubaix, two concerts at the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife dedicated to the animation studio Ghibli, with the Symphonic Band of the Conservatory of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the best film ballads, with Carezza. The symphonic concert "The French Connection", which was held at Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín", delighted the audience through an unforgettable journey through the works of the greatest film music French composers, from Maurice Jarre and Georges Delerue, to Alexander Desplat or Ludovic Bource, who won a standing ovation when he played on the piano his music for the film "The Artist", for which he won the Oscar Academy Award in 2012.
In the words of Diego Navarro, "this ninth edition has been fantastic and we are very proud of seeing all the festival venues filled with an audience that has remained faithful to FIMUCITÉ even in a week in which the cultural offer in the island was enormous”. "Each year, the festival is a huge emotional experience for both the people attending and the team to carry it out, and it has favored new relations among the guests," the director emphasizes.
FIMUCITÉ will celebrate its 10th Anniversary in 2016 and, in this sense, Navarro states that there are several months ahead to develop a program which fulfills the expectations of its followers, film music and cinema lovers.
