I could swear that Michael Giacchino's theme piano melody from the movie "Inside Out" -- the little five-note ditty that's repeated twice -- is something that sounds almost exactly like some other score I've heard, and not one of his scores, but someone else's. Is it just me hearing things?

You wouldn't happen to have a link to a representative sample of the music, would you?

Amazon doesn't have samples, yet.

The best I can do for now is suggest listening to the music that accompanies the free game app from Disney: Inside Out Thought Bubbles. I'll keep trying to find a clip that I can share.

I found it here:
http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Original-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B00XWYP5NI/ref=sr_1_1?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1435676755&sr=1-1&keywords=inside+out

If you click on the track number, you get a 30-sec sample. What track are we looking at?

I was JUST there yesterday, and they didn't have the track samples. But thank you for finding them!

The piano melody at the very beginning of "Bundle of Joy (sample)" (track 1) and at the very beginning of "Free Skating (sample)" (track 5) is the one.

It's not EXACTLY the piano melody I'm remembering, but it is very close. Giacchino's melody has just a slight touch of a bittersweet tone, and the one I'm thinking of is perhaps a little more lighthearted, but it's up in the same register, and is played on the piano, and is repeated twice.

Thanks! It's going to drive me batty until I find that original melody's source.

Okay, I saw the movie this weekend, so I heard a lot of the piano melody you're talking about. Honestly, it reminded me of the music in The Sims 2, especially the background stuff while you're building or decorating your house. Those tracks are #9 and #10 here, with samples:

HEY! I found it. Listening to it right now.

"The Pursuit Of Happyness" by Andrea Guerra

That's exactly the music I was thinking about. It's VERY close to Inside Out. Not a straight rip-off, but definitely quite similar.
