SILVA SCREEN RECORDS PRESENTS ‘THE PARADISE - SEASON 2’ ORIGINAL TELEVISION SOUNDTRACK
Featuring Original Music Composed By Maurizio Malagnini
(August XX, 2015 - Los Angeles, CA) - Silva Screen Records will digitally release the Emmy-nominated score to THE PARADISE Season 2 - Original Television Soundtrack on August 14, 2015. The album features the original music written by Maurizio Malagnini (CALL THE MIDWIFE, THE BODY FARM).
When starting to compose the score for the first season of THE PARADISE in 2012, Maurizio took a classic approach for creating the tonal palate for the series. “The producer, Simon Lewis, contacted me very early in pre-production to invite me to compose the music for the adaptation of Zola’s novel,” Maurizio said. “He suggested that I be inspired by James Tissot’s paintings, representing the costumes and the art design of that time. They looked very colorful and lush and this made me think immediately that woodwinds would have to play a prominent part in the score and a large orchestral sound would be perfect.”
Following the success of the first season, Maurizio was commissioned to compose the second season of THE PARADISE to transport the audience back in time once more. He studied LAKME by Leo Delibes (1883) and CARMEN by Bizet (1875) to incorporate some of the elements of the French Opera into the TV Show. The soundtrack was recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra.
About Maurizio Malagnini:
Maurizio Malagnini is an Emmy-nominated composer based in London whose work spans drama, animation, and symphonic music. Over the past five years, the international award-winning composer has distinguished himself by bringing his elegant melodies and cinematic class to numerous BBC television shows. Since 2010, Malagnini has composed the music for 54 episodes of television for BBC One. In demand because of his ability to vary his palette of sounds and styles, each time bringing the audience to the heart of the story, Malagnini’s work on THE PARADISE has recently been recognized with an EMMY® Award Nomination, and has been hailed as a “masterpiece of musical storytelling.” Broadcast in 132 territories, THE PARADISE earned Malagnini international recognition, including three Music + Sound Awards and, in 2015, his first EMMY® Award Nomination. Continuing his relationship with the BBC, Malagnini was asked to compose the soundtrack for the fourth season of the popular period drama CALL THE MIDWIFE (Neal Street). Malagnini’s music helped to breathe new life and color to the show, and was awarded with his fourth Music + Sound Award in 2015. His recent projects include THE C WORD, a BBC TV-movie based on the book and blog by Lisa Lynch, featuring a minimalistic and subtle score, which mixed electronica with string orchestra. Malagnini is currently composing the music for the fifth season of CALL THE MIDWIFE.
