Thanks for the names, Dutch. I'll add them when I get the chance.
I was a little disappointed in the turnout for theme day, myself. I think it can be hard on weekends, when there seem to be fewer people around. And for this theme day, I think some people just don't think it's important. We have to change their minds by leading with positive examples.
Until next year! |

Apparantly Mol didn't get all female composers I requested yesterday: |
I saw those names Dutch and skipped them.
For Nani Garcia the reason is he is a man (look here for example: http://www.nanigarcia.com/media/img/nani_garcia800x250.png).
For Wakana Hara the reason was I could not find any reliable source of information confirming that she is a composer (IMDB says she is a sound department, not mentioning any compositions)
I skipped Zaz because I could not find any proof that she composed anything for a movie. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

I can't say for Wakana HARA, as the only works she is credited for is Ninja Gaiden.

She didn't compose specifically for a movie although some of her songs have been used. She did write lyrics for a song on a music from Howard Shore called Cœur Volant for the movie Hugo. The two songs Belle and l'Oiseau in Belle & Sébastien are actually (nice) reprises from the openings of the old french TV show from the 60s. |

Tomorrow's the day! Have a look a the list at the beginning of this thread, and let me know if anyone needs to be added!
Also, does anyone know if I can make columns in a post? That list is getting a bit long and little unwieldy. |

OK, it's today! I updated the list with a few new names, and I encourage everyone to try a request from it.
I know many people are loathe to use their request on a composer they've never heard of. But there are deserving names on that list, and they won't get famous if they're never heard. What we have here is a microcosm of the entertainment industry in general. They won't take chances on female directors, writers, composers, like they should. But we can. For one day, at least. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

She counts. Trans women are women. I don't see any need to point out the Walter thing. |

Angel Roché Jr. is not female (nor trans). http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1356349/.
However, he composes with his wife, Zoë Poledouris, so you get one, you get the other. |

Thanks, TwilightSoul. That mistake is so obvious I have no idea how I made it, but I have fixed it now.
And thanks to everyone who participated in this theme day. I know it sounds a little dorky, but it means a lot to me, and it was so special to see people's selections, not to mention a queue that was almost entirely female artists. I had a lot of fun, and you are the best. See you next year. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

Thanks to our Played History feature I did some counting and it looks like on March 8th, 2016 we had:
- 119 requests dedicated to Theme Day: Celebrate Female Film Composers;
- 60 different female artists on air.
And I counted only requests with messages letting listeners know the request was meant to celebrate Theme Day.
BTW: The most requested female composer this year was Debbie Wiseman (7 requests). Other popular ladies were: R. Portman, P. Kouneva, S. Walker, B. Martin, Y. Kanno, D. Lurie, W. Carlos.
Looking forward to March 8th, 2017 already! _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Thank you LadyI! I'll definitely participate! We have so many great female composers so we should celebrate them on March 8. |

Mica Levi should be added to the list. Her Oscar nominated score for Jackie is really very good... |
