MARCELO ZARVOS’ SCORE FOR
OUR KIND OF TRAITOR TO BE RELEASED BY QUARTET RECORDS
(May 13, 2016 – Los Angeles, CA) – Quartet Records will release the OUR KIND OF TRAITOR – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and in select countries on CD May 13, 2016. A CD release is planned for the United States later this summer. The album features the film’s original score by Marcelo Zarvos (THE AFFAIR, THE GOOD SHEPHERD).
“Director Susanna White was very keen in exploring through the music ideas of masculinity and friendship, but being a story created by thriller master John Le Carré we also had to carefully balance the action and adventure our characters go through,” said Zarvos. “There is plenty of action in both the images and the score, but we were very careful to never loose track of the emotional journey our main character Perry goes through.”
While on holiday in Marrakech, an ordinary English couple, Perry (Ewan McGregor) and Gail (Naomie Harris), befriend a flamboyant and charismatic Russian, Dima (Stellan Skarsgård), who unbeknownst to them is a kingpin money launderer for the Russian mafia. When Dima asks for their help to deliver classified information to the British Secret Services, Perry and Gail get caught in a dangerous world of international espionage and dirty politics. The couple is propelled on a perilous journey through Paris and Bern, a safe house in the French Alps, to the murky corners of the City of London and to an alliance with the British Government via a ruthless and determined MI6 agent (Damian Lewis). From the writer of DRIVE adapting the hit John Le Carré novel – the mind behind TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY and directed by acclaimed Susanna White – this taut thriller twists and turns its way around the world with dramatic consequences.
“This was no ordinary spy story and the very first image we see is that of famed ballet dancer Antonio Acosta in a gorgeous slow motion shot,” Zarvos explained. “I took to heart that the idea of dance for this score. I played a mind game with myself and imagined this story as a ballet in which our main characters are the dancers. Being a partially Russian story of course also helped inform that, and it didn’t hurt that some of my favorite music comes from Russian ballet composers such as Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky. In the end, the challenge in doing the score for Our Kind of Traitor was how to balance the internal world of the characters with the action.”
Lionsgate presents OUR KIND OF TRAITOR in theaters in the U.S. July 1, 2016. Quartet Records will release the OUR KIND OF TRAITOR – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and in select territories on CD May 13, and on CD in the U.S. later this year.

ABOUT MARCELO ZARVOS
The subtle nuances of composer Marcelo Zarvos' style are evidenced in his recent scores for Golden Globe-winning THE AFFAIR and RAY DONOVAN. Though his training began by studying classical music he later began delving into jazz, rock and world music. This expansion of influence helped to create Zarvos’ trademark sound - a seamless blend of classical, orchestral, rock, electronic and various ethnic elements, that together create uniquely affecting and emotionally charged music for film, TV, modern dance and the concert stage.

He burst onto the film landscape in the early 2000s with his score for KISSING JESSICA STEIN and with the film adaptation of the John Irving novel, THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR. Splitting time between the New York independent film scene, Hollywood productions, World and European Cinema, Zarvos’ credits include THE GOOD SHEPHERD, THE WORDS, BROOKLYN’S FINEST, THE FACE OF LOVE, REACHING FOR THE MOON (FLORES RARAS), SIN NOMBRE, HOLLYWOODLAND, ADULT BEGINNERS, THE HUMBLING, LITTLE ACCIDENTS, ROCK THE KASBAH, AMERICAN ULTRA and ENOUGH SAID.
Twice nominated for Primetime Emmy® Awards (for YOU DON’T KNOW JACK and TAKING CHANCE), Zarvos’ television work includes TOO BIG TO FAIL, THE BIG C, EXTANT the HBO movie PHIL SPECTOR, and two current Showtime series THE AFFAIR and RAY DONOVAN.
