Out of competition, the documentary “Playing Lecuona” will open the screenings of this official section.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, August 30th, 2016.- For the fourth consecutive year, the Tenerife International Film Music Festival, (FIMUCITÉ) offers its official section FIMUCINEMA, the competition to choose the best scores in a feature film, in a documentary and in a short film, which will be held, in parallel to the festival, from September 23rd to October 1st. FIMUCINEMA will open with the screening of the documentary “Playing Lecuona”, directed by Pavel Giroud and Juan Manuel Villar Betancort. This film is a heartfelt tribute to the musical legacy of Ernesto Lecuona, which analyzes his historical value, as well as his present relevance, from the point of view of different renowned musicians such as Chucho Valdés, Michel Camilo or Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

This year, FIMUCINEMA has experienced a giant leap in relation to the previous years. About 1,200 works have submitted for the three categories, with productions from all over the world, especially from the United States of America, Spain, India, Italy, Brazil, Iran, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Altogether, 40 short films, 6 documentaries and 5 feature films have been selected to compete for the Alex North Award to the Best Score for a Feature Film, and the FIMUCINEMA Award for the Best Score in a Short Film and for Best Documentary Score, as well as for the Best Original Song.

As in previous years, all projections will take place in TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes from September 26th to September 29th, starting at 5:00 pm. In its fourth edition, FIMUCINEMA works with Aula de Cine de la Universidad de La Laguna, Charlas de Cine and Multicines Tenerife, where the opening screening of “Playing Lecuona” will be held on September 24th. On September 25th, the competition section will start. The winning films will be projected on October 2nd, after being announced on the ‘Space Opera’ concert on September 30th ( Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín”).

Among all the submitted works, the number and the excellent quality of the animated productions submitted has caught the attention of the organization. Thus, a marathon of the animated short films has been scheduled for Sunday 25th. That same day, the French production “Battledream Chronicle” will be presented, a sci-fi film with references to video games, manga and European comic.

Four more films have been selected: the American production “Native”, the Argentinian “Pájaros Negros” (nominated to the Argentinean Film Critics Association Awards 2016, for Best Score for Pablo Salas), and the Spanish “El Destierre” y “Los Días Vacíos” (the latter also being a Canarian production).

Documentaries are focused on the importance of preserving legacy, history and the idiosyncrasy of those cultures they represent. Some of these works are “Ecuador”, “Más Arriba de Todos”, “Mujeres de la Mar”; “Bocagrande”, “Lembranza” and “La Habitación de Fondo” (based on the Canarian poetess Pino Ojeda).

National works will also be screened, with the remarkable presence of professionals such as Luis Ivars, Lucas Vidal or César Benito, as well as the participation of ascending composers like Ginés Carrión, Luis Hernaiz, Josué Vergara, Alberto de la Rocha, Iván Capillas or Iván Ruiz Serrano. While working on offering a work selection as international as possible, FIMUCINEMA remains true to its commitment with Canarian productions. Just like that, each section of the contest includes local representation, with nominations for composers René Martín, Carlos Gherrera, Aarón Barreiro, Ner Suárez and Jonay Armas.

The 10th Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) is sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.
