Santa Cruz de Tenerife, December 19th, 2016.- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) is preparing its 11th year, which will be devoted to the sword and sorcery film music. The event will be held from September 22nd to 30th, 2017, thanks to the sponsorship of Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Arona City Councils.

After the success obtained during its first decade, the festival directed by composer Diego Navarro pursues to please its unconditional fans and all film music lovers with a wide and interesting program featuring the fantasy subgenre film scores. This will be the leitmotiv of the concert “Sword & Sorcery: Symphonic Chronicles of a Legendary Era”, which will be held at Auditorio de Tenerife “Adán Martín” on September 29th. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir will perform some classic scores on their 35th anniversary such as “Conan the Barbarian”, “The Dark Crystal”, “The Beastmaster”, and “The Sword and the Sorcerer”, with music by Basil Poledouris, Trevor Jones, Lee Holdridge, and David Whitaker, respectively, and which will be joined by other key sword and sorcery films.

The details of this new edition were revealed last Thursday, December 15th in the press conference that took place at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, with the participation of the director of Culture of Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, José Luis Rivero; the deputy minister of Culture for the Canary Islands Government, Aurelio González; the Arona councillor for Culture, Leopoldo Díaz; the director of Televisión Española in the Canaries, Domingo Álvarez, and the composer Diego Navarro, director of FIMUCITÉ, who announced that the first confirmed guest will be Trevor Jones, composer of the scores from the films “The Last of the Mohicans” or “Excalibur”, among others.

The tickets for the great concert of September 29th are already on sale at the box office of the Auditorium and on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com. The leitmotiv of FIMUCITE’s Closing Night Gala Concert, which will be conducted by Diego Navarro, will be announced soon.

The festival’s program will include other concerts to be held at Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos, Arona, and at the Guimerá Theater in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The successful initiative “The Pop Culture Band” will return as well. This Pop - Rock original concert combines the best film songs with an awesome staging, including amusing choreographies and which, in previous years, has featured the shows “Back to the 80s”, “Back to the 90s” and “That 70's show”.

The organization of the festival is also working on the 2017 FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy, for Audiovisual Composers, which began in 2016 during the festival. This initiative was welcomed by both students and teachers, some of them not being residents on the Canary Islands.

Among the parallel activities, it is worth mentioning the competitive section of the festival, FIMUCINEMA. In its fifth year, this event will screen, for free, the films in competition in order to choose the best scores in a feature film, in a documentary and in a short film.

FIMUCITÉ will continue cooperating with both the Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands and the Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Thus, the festival and the music institutions are preparing several concerts where the young students will have a unique opportunity to show their skills. Moreover, RTVE, the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation, a great supporter of the festival, will continue recording, editing and broadcasting the symphonic concerts either regionally, nationally or internationally.

Furthermore, in May 2017, FIMUCITÉ and its director, Diego Navarro, will gain special prominence in the 10th Krakow Film Music Festival. The bound between the Tenerife International Film Music Festival and the Polish equivalent started in 2009 and focuses on spreading and promoting the art of film music.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, March 17th, 2017.- For its eleventh year, the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) will open at Infanta Leonor Auditorium in Los Cristianos with a tribute concert to italian filmmaker Lucio Fulci. The festival will screen the film “The Beyond” together with the performance of the music. This “live-to-picture” experience will be conducted by the composer of the score, the prominent Fabio Frizzi. This attractive and thrilling event is included in a varied program of concerts and activities to be held from September 22nd to 30th, thanks to the sponsorship of Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Arona City Councils.

This outstanding music show has successfully been performed around the United States and the United Kingdom, among other countries, within Frizzi’s Zombie Apocalypse Tour. The film “The Beyond”, considered to be Fulci’s most important movie, has an 18 rating due to its explicit violent scenes, Italian 80s horror signature.

“The Beyond” has become a cult movie some rankings place it among the best horror films in history, which contains some really shocking and violent scenes. Starred by Catriona MacColl and David Warbeck, the story takes place in a hotel in Louisiana, in the 20s, when strange incidents open a gate that allows the dead to come to the world of the living. Decades later, we see the consequences of those incidents when a young woman tries to renovate it and terrible “accidents” begin to happen.

This live-to-picture concert will be performed by Fabio Frizzi’s Band, featuring Alessandro Errichetti (guitar), Riccardo Rocchi (guitar), Federico Tacchia (drums), Alessio Contorni (keyboards), Roberto Fasciani (bass) and Giulietta Zanardi, one of the most prominent italian vocalists. Frizzi will receive one of the FIMUCITÉ-Antón García Abril honorary awards in recognition of his career. Tickets for this concert, to be held on September 22nd, at 20:00 h, will be on sale this week for €5 at Los Cristianos Cultural Center and at the box office of the theater. Information at http://www.arona.org/auditorio .

Filmmakers Quentin Tarantino and Sam Raimi have recognised the influence Fulci has had in their works.

Fabio Frizzi has composed the soundtrack of more than seventy films and several TV series. Throughout his career, Frizzi has written music for very different genres, but his greatest recognition has come thanks to his artistic relationship with both director Lucio Fulci and horror films.

The concert ‘Stephen King’s Night Gallery’, conducted by festival director Diego Navarro, will be performed at the venue Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín on Saturday September 30th. This event will also mark the world premiere of 16 pieces, amongst which are those by Licht. The Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Children’s Choir of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with Juan Ramón Vinagre as Choir Master, will perform these works.

Fimucite XI: Warriors, magic and blood
As you may have known, I went to the Canarian Island Tenerife last weekend to represent SST at the film music festival over there called Fimucité. It is the fourth time I attended.

Thursday: Warriors of the Silver Screen

The festival was already under way for a couple of days when I arrived. The first concert I attended was a concert with music of movies where warriors play a leading role. Most of the music were from classics like El Cid and Ben-Hur. But also Braveheart, Gladiator and King Arthur (with solo on recorder) were performed. But before music from these movies were played, it was first time for a suite from the game Witcher 3, with the composer Marcin present in the audience. Overall it was a great concert of a young orchestra with musicians who really enjoyed themselves. I was also not really into those classics scores, but since this concert I really want to check those out.

Friday: Sword & Sorcery

The friday concert was in the the most beautiful venue that I know: the auditorium of Santa Cruz. The concert itself was about fantasy movies with magic and barbarians. Music of all kinds of great films were played and some of the composers were also in the audience. For example King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was played because Daniel Pemberton was present, but also music from Season of the Witch by Atli Örvarsson. The main guest of the evening was Trevor Jones, so we could also enjoy some very melodic music from Excalibur, Dark Crystal and Merlin. The last piece he conducted it himself. But there was also another main guest at the concert: composer but also conductor Eimear Noone. She stood at the helm of the concert for almost four hours wearing a beautiful costume and keeping the orchestra in check with her broad motions. All in all it was a very magical show.

Saturday: Stephen King’s Night Gallery

The saturday concert was again in the gorgeous auditorium. This time with music from Stephen King movies. The most of the evening we heard all kind of eerie music from different films and different composers. For example, it was fun to hear music from both the old and the new IT movies. Also there was attention for Daniel Licht who sadly passed away recently and who had also written music for Stephen King movies. For those we do not like eerie music there was the very beautiful “The Host of Seraphim” by Dead Can Dance from The Fog. The singer did her version very well. It is hard to top Lisa Gerrard, but she came very close. The evening ended with two movies with music written by Thomas Newman: The Green Mile, and Shawshank Redemption. I really loved this concert, because the programme was so varied and unique. Also, it was the first time that I heard most pieces. Some of them were arranged especially for this concert.

Conclusion

I had a great time. I really love this festival. What I love about it, is that you just feel at home. The composers and guests are feeling relaxed as well and are walking in the lobby. It is easy to walk to them for a photo or a signature. The concerts themselves are original and of great quality. I just have to say the same thing as I did last year: if you want a holiday with sun, sea and film music: this is the place to be! I also got the chance to interview some of the composers, you will read about them very soon.
