They say it's better late than never. Here is a short report from Danleich's and mine recent visit to Malmö.

As far as I know it was the first visit of SST members in a new concert room of Malmö Symfoniorkester. The venue is nice, a bit bigger than the old one.

Here is a programme of the VGM concert we had last Saturday:

1. Nobuo Uematsu - "Final Fantasy VII - Main Theme"
2. Masashi Hamauzu & Nobuo Uematsu - "Final Fantasy X - Hymn of the Fayth"
3. Nobuo Uematsu - "Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fatali"
4. Kazuma Jinnouchi/Martin O'Donnel & Michael Salvatori - "Halo - Never Forget/Peril"
5. Jeremy Soule - "Skyrim - Dragonborn"
6. Yasunori Mitsuda - "Chrono Trigger - Main Theme"
7. Jack Wall - "Mass Effect 2 - Suicide Mission"
8. Kazumi Totaka - "Luigi's Mansion - Main Theme"
9. Jeremy Soule - "Skyrim - Far Horizons"
10 Joel Eriksson - "Battlefield 2 - Main Theme"

11. Koji Kondo - "The Legend of Zelda - Suite"
12. Irish folk song - "Assassins Creed IV: Black flag - The parting glass"
13. Russell Brower - "Diablo III - Overture"
14. Ari Pulkkinen - "Angry Birds - Main Theme"
15. Koji Kondo - "Super Mario Bros - Theme"
16. Jonathan Coulton / Mike Morasky - "Portal 2 - Want You Gone/Cara Mia Addio"
17. Garry Schyman - "Bioshock - The Ocean On His Shoulders"
18. Michael Hunter - "Grand Theft Auto IV - Soviet Connection"
19. Jason Hayes - "World of Warcraft - Seasons of War"
20. Hans Zimmer - "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Opening Titles"
21. Nobuo Uematsu - "Final Fantasy VII - One Winged Angel"

Encore: Nobuo Uematsu - "Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fatali"

I enjoyed the concert a lot. At least two times had goosebumps (even though I was not feeling well on that day). And we had a choir this year which was a very nice addition to usual setup.

Again Malmö proved to be a great place to listen to video games music. For me it's the best place for VG music I've seen so far.

My fav pieces were Skyrim ones plus Mass Effect 2 piece and Battlefield 2 theme.

BTW: a soprano soloist Myrra Malmberg was very good this year but during Dragonborn I was missing a soprano from previous years - Sabina Zweiacker which I enjoyed a little bit better.

And for those who are interested, dates for Joystic 10.0 have been already announced!

2018 concerts will be held on Saturday, April 14th (at 14:00 and at 19:00).
Programme: TBA

Amateur video clips from the concert:

I'm not going to Stockholm either. I'm not a fan of horror movies at all.

Although there are some tracks in the Stockholm concert's programme I'd like to hear live some day.

I definitely have to agree with mol there, was an amazing concert. Some things, that stood out for me as a small addition:
I really liked the use of the presenters to give some visual background to the music, plus they could arrange it so, that smaller videos were displayed fitting to the tiles above the orchestra, as can be seen in the zelda video. So they could show at the same time clips from the different generations of the zelda games, nice little gimmick imo. Additionally they had quite some entertainment built up around the concert itself, including being able to play board- and video games as well some sort of quiz concerning the games. Unfortunately most of it was in swedish, but we missed most of it anyway. Still a cool idea to have around. Also they offered some old console games to buy, didn't check out, which language they were in, since i do not own any of the consoles. But it was crowded in front of it Smile
Also they handed out the programm in the form of scrolls, nice little feature i really liked (and is still hanging on my pin board Smile).

Music wise it is really hard for me to decide for some favorite tracks, since almost all of them were really well done. I think I would stick to "Liberi Fatali", which was just an awesome performance (twice!), Far Horizons was really beautiful, you could really dream away to it and suicide mission was one of the main reasons i went there and was really happy with their performance. And Angry Birds of course, that tune always makes me happy when i get to hear it Very Happy

More news about Joystick 10.0 concert in Malmoe:

The date is still the same (April 14th 2018), but now I see only one concert (at 7 PM).

And now you can see what orchestra will perform:

Programme:

Killzone - Helghast March
Final Fantasy VI – Terra’s Theme
Halo – Opening/Halo (kör)
Halo 2 – Unforgotten
Bioshock – Welcome to Rapture
Suikoden – Into a World of Illusions
Suikoden 2 – Opening
Secret of Mana – Fear of the Heavens
Final Fantasy VIII – Liberi Fatali

(break)

Journey – I Was Born for This (Sabina Zweiacker)
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – Main Theme (Sabina Zweiacker)
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Suite
Sonic the Hedgehog – Suite
The Last of Us – All Gone (No Escape)
Mega Man – Suite
World of Warcraft – Wrath of the Lich King- Main Title
Age of Conan – Nighttime Journey through the Eiglophian Mountains (Sabina Zweiacker)
Skyrim – The Dragonborn Comes (Sabina Zweiacker)

The programme seems to be kind of a choice of the best of performances from previous years.

I don't speak Swedish but I think we will have a choir on stage again and Sabina Zweiacker is back. Also the original host will be back (Orvar Säfström). On the other hand orchestra conductor is new to me (and I liked Charles Hazlewood who used to be usual man with a baton for this event a lot).

You can follow info about this event here:
https://malmolive.se/program/joystick-10

Haven't decided yet, but it's possible that I will visit Sweden im April again.
