FMF AND FIMUCITÉ JOIN FORCES TO EXCHANGE YOUNG TALENT FOR THEIR YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS

- Four performers from the Canary Islands Conservatory of Music will join the Krakow Youth Orchestra this week for two concerts being performed during the XI edition of the Krakow FMF.
- This Friday also sees the Polish festival offering audiences a performance of ‘All About Almodóvar’, a FIMUCITÉ production led by soloist Esther Ovejero who will be supported by a group of outstanding musicians from the Canary Islands.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, May 29th, 2018 - The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) - which will run from September 21st – 29th, 2018, thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council – and its Polish counterpart, the Krakow Film Music Festival (FMF), have set in motion a new collaboration that consists of an exchange program between the youth orchestras of each festival.

The FMF will be kicking off its XI edition this Wednesday 30th May, and will see four performers from the Canary Islands Professional Conservatory of Music and Higher Conservatory of Music joining the Krakow Youth Orchestra for two concerts: two violinists, one violist, and one cellist. The musicians from the Canary Islands will be joining the FMF Youth Orchestra in the concert entitled, Monsters Movie Music Madness, that takes place next Sunday 3rd June in the ICE Krakow Congress Centre, and also on Tuesday 5th June, in the Krzysztof Penderecki European Center for Music. In return, with FIMUCITÉ XII on the horizon in September, the Polish festival will be returning the gesture by sending four of their musicians to participate in a FIMUCITÉ concert as part of programmed events.

Diego Navarro, Director of FIMUCITÉ, has stated, “Bringing this international cultural exchange into being is incredibly important news; it is tangible evidence that the cooperation between two benchmark international film music festivals is both feasible and useful. It has been for many years, but in this specific case, and for the first time, by focusing on the educational sector, we’ve made it possible for our young and talented musicians to enjoy the experience of performing with the FMF Youth Orchestra, and then in September have several fantastic Polish students join us for FIMUCITÉ to participate in the concert performed by the FIMUCITÉ Youth Orchestra. This international cultural exchange holds great value for our event here in Tenerife, and also for FMF in Poland as well.”

Robert Piaskowski, the Artistic Director of FMF, has this to say about the collaboration between the two film music festivals in Krakow and Tenerife, “Together, we have trained youth orchestras capable of performing even the most demanding film music programmes; the time has now come for these students to share experiences with one another and broaden their horizons. I am proud of this new step and what I would describe as a perfect example of collaboration between FMF and FIMUCITÉ. These two festivals serve as inspiration to one another, which has helped boost the growth of both and transform them into industry leaders.”

This Friday 1st June also sees the Polish festival offering audiences a performance of ‘All About Almodóvar’, led by soloist Esther Ovejero who is supported by a group of outstanding musicians from the Canary Islands. This is a FIMUCITÉ production dedicated to songs taken from soundtracks created by the Spanish filmmaker, Pedro Almodóvar during his career. The production was first performed in Tenerife in September last year before being performed in Gran Canaria, and now Krakow.

In addition, on Sunday 3rd June, Krakow FMF hosts the film music Experts Panel. This panel will include the producer of FIMUCITÉ, Pedro Mérida, who is representing Spain, and also representatives of other renowned events, such as those from Ghent (Valerie Dobbelaere), Prague (Nikola Bojčev), Croatia (Ozren K. Glaser) and Poland. It also includes the participation of Robert Piaskowski & Agata Grabowiecka from the FMF festival itself, and the composer and Oscar Award winner Jan AP Kaczmarek who is founder of the Transatlantyk Film Music Competition, as well as other industry experts, such as Mike Todd, Simon Greenaway, Richard Guerin and Michael Freiburg.

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival 12 (FIMUCITÉ XII) has been made possible thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, AUDI, Dorada Especial, & Teleférico del Teide, and thanks to the collaboration of SGAE – the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers.

RTVE & FIMUCITÉ CONSOLIDATES THEIR ALLIANCE WITH THE PRODUCTION OF EXCLUSIVE FILM MUSIC CONCERTS

- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival presents its complete programme of events for the twelfth edition of the festival. The programme includes the recital ‘Cine de Barrio in concert', which is a collection of classics from Spanish cinema made popular by beloved singers such as Raphael, Marisol, and Manolo Escobar.

- For the first time ever, FIMUCITÉ plans to perform its opening concert ‘Play It Again, Jean-Michel’ (‘Tócala otra vez, Jean-Michel’) in both Tenerife & Gran Canaria. The performance in Tenerife will be held in the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, and the performance in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will be held in the Teatro Guiniguada.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, June 25th, 2018 - The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) is pleased to announce its concert programme, which complements the symphonic events already announced for the festival’s twelfth edition. The festival will run from September 21st – 29th, 2018 thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council. A highlight amongst its wide range of offerings is a performance of ‘Cine de Barrio in concert’, which is offered to you in collaboration with the Spanish public broadcaster Radiotelevisión Española.

The magnificent composer, orchestrator, and concert pianist Jean-Michel Bernard will open the concert programme on Friday September 21st in the Teatro Leal in La Laguna with a piano recital, during which he will be accompanied by the Japanese soloist Kimiko Ono. The amazing improvisation, charisma and talent of Jean-Michel Bernard, who was recently named an official artist of the prestigious piano maker Steinway & Sons and who is the official pianist of Ray Charles, earn him rounds of applause from the audience every time he takes the stage. In the concert ‘Play It Again, Jean-Michel’ will take audiences on a tour through his own personal interpretation of some classic soundtracks (‘The Pink Panther, ‘Forrest Gump’, ‘Schindler’s List’ or ‘Taxi Driver’, to name a few), as well as some of his own compositions that have featured in films such as ‘The Science of Sleep’ & ‘Human Nature’ by Michel Gondry. Tickets for the opening concert are now on sale at the Teatro Leal Box Office, and online at www.entrees.es.

The recital will be repeated at the Teatro Guiniguada in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Sunday 23rd September, making this the first time FIMUCITÉ runs a parallel programme across the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

On Saturday 22nd September, the Pop Culture Band, under the musical direction of Gonzalo de Araoz, will be returning to Teatro Guimerá with a new and attractive concert entitled ‘Addicted to Love’. This show is dedicated to the best songs from romance films.

A selection of popular pieces taken from classic Spanish film that boasts the musical talent of national composers of renown standing such as Antón García Abril or Augusto Algueró, or singers such as Raphael, Imperio Argentina, Karina, Marisol or Manolo Escobar, will be performed in Teatro Guimerá on Sunday 23rd September in ‘Cine de Barrio in concert’. This is the official concert dedicated to titles headlining the popular program broadcast by Radiotelevisión Española. During the evening’s performance, audiences will see performances by the pianist and musical director David Quevedo, and Esther Ovejero and Fran León as lead vocalists. RTVE has reaffirmed its collaboration with FIMUCITÉ and will be recording both this exclusive event as well as the programmed symphonic concerts, as in previous years, for their subsequent broadcast at a local, national and international level.

On Thursday September 27th it will then be the turn of the ‘Colossus of the Silver Screen’ (‘Colosos de la Gran Pantalla’) during a concert held at the Teatro Guiméra. The performance will be delivered by the FIMUCITÉ Symphonic Youth Orchestra, which includes young musicians who study at the Professional Conservatory of Music of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and at the Canary Islands Higher Conservatory of Music. For the third consecutive year, the orchestra is led by maestro José Antonio Cubas. This year’s programme will trace a path through musical masterpieces by composers including John Barry, John Williams, Mario Nascimbene, Ramin Djawadi and Jerome Moross that are taken from films exploring cinema’s mythical beasts: King Kong and Godzilla, and the dinosaurs of ‘Jurassic Park’ or those of ‘The Valley of Gwangi’.

Of noteworthy mention is that part of this concert will include soundtracks from productions that were filmed in the Canary Islands, for example ‘Clash of The Titans’ featuring the Kraken, ‘Moby Dick’ starring a giant whale, or ‘When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth’ and ‘One Million Years B.C’ that startle audiences with prehistoric creatures.

There will be two showings of the concert: a matinee performance for schools (TBD), and a performance for the general public at 20:00. Tickets are available at the Teatro Leal Box Office, and online at www.TomaTicket.es.

As per tradition, the Auditorio de Tenerife will play host to the two biggest concerts of the festival that mark the end of the week’s events whilst placing the island firmly in the international film music spotlight:

On Friday September 28th, the European premiere of the astounding live-to-picture concert dedicated to the film ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ by Steven Spielberg (‘Encuentros en la tercera fase’). The Artistic Director of FIMUCITÉ, the renown composer and conductor Diego Navarro, will be leading the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Film Choir throughout their performance of the entire, and now legendary, score by John Williams as the film is projected;

On Saturday September 29th, the FIMUCITÉ 12 Closing Gala. In attendance will be guest conductor Ben Foster who is responsible for conducting ‘The Truth Is Out There’ (‘La verdad está ahí fuera'), a comprehensive journey through the most iconic scores from science fiction subgenre dedicated to U.F.Os and alien invasions. Included in the evening’s repertoire are soundtracks from films such as ‘Mars Attacks’ (1996, music composed by Danny Elfman), ‘Contact’ (1997, Alan Silvestri), ‘The Abyss’ (1989, Alan Silvestri), ‘Starman' (1989, Jack Nietzche), ‘The Thing’ (1982, Ennio Morricone) or ‘Thunderbirds Are Go’; the latter is a modern-day remake of the series containing the popular & well-known characters from the original which is now being broadcast on TV, and which includes scores written by Foster and his brother Nick, for which both received BAFTA Award nominations.

Tickets for the symphony concerts are available at the Auditorio de Tenerife Box Office, and online at www.auditoriodetenerife.com.

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival 12 (FIMUCITÉ XII) has been made possible thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the companies AUDI, Dorada Especial, & Teleférico del Teide, and the collaboration of SGAE – the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers.

SPANISH PREMIERE: THE FIMUCITÉ FESTIVAL WILL PERFORM A LIVE-TO PICTURE CONCERT OF ‘CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND’
- The journalist Javier Sierra, U.F.O. expert and winner of the Spanish literary award Premio Planeta 2017, will introduce the concert.

- The original score will be performed by the Orquestra Sinfónica de Tenerife and Tenerife Film Choir, and conducted by Diego Navarro.

- This version will restore eight minutes of previously unreleased score by its composer, John Williams.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, July 10th, 2018 - The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) will be screening the classic science fiction film ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’. For the first time in Spain, the musical score will be performed in a live-to-picture concert that will be held in the Auditorio de Tenerife on Friday 28th September. The event will be hosted by the journalist and U.F.O. expert Javier Sierra, who is the winner of the Spanish literary award Premio Planeta 2017, and the festival’s official host, Ana Molowny. In the world of film, ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ is his favourite film in the sci-fi genre of alien invasions and U.F.O sightings. This concert is one of the highlights of the twelfth edition of the festival, which runs from September 21st – 29th, 2018, thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.

In Javier Sierra’s words, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind was released the same year as Star Wars, and for a 6-year-old kid, as I was, back in 1977, both releases were mind-blowing… The case of Close Encounters [sic] is special. During filming, Spielberg had a special advisor who was the world’s leading expert in U.F.Os at the time, the astronomer Joseph Allan Hynek. Spielberg was also sensitive to the huge emotional trauma faced by people claiming to have seen a U.F.O - their having to deal with something so unfamiliar and also people’s scepticism. What is more, many of the situations they recreate in the first few minutes of the film are based on true events, even the press clippings. This eye for detail means that I continue to discover new “Easter eggs” and meanings that I previously missed”.

FIMUCITÉ presents the Spanish premiere of the live-to-picture concert ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind (‘Encuentros en la Tercera Fase’) performed by the Orquestra Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir. John Williams’ acclaimed score will be performed in full. The festival’s artistic director, composer Diego Navarro, will be conducting this premiere of the live-to-picture symphony in the Canary Islands. Navarro says, “It will be a truly historic concert that will create a unique sensory experience and unforgettable memory of Spielberg’s masterpiece”.

This event will also include eight minutes of previously unreleased score that composer John Williams and director Steven Spielberg have restored for this concert performance. These portions of the score are not available in the original theatrical prints or home video versions. It is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to enjoy original music written by the film composer.

Javier Sierra adds, “The film perfectly captures how an encounter with something unfamiliar, apparently ‘superior’, can completely change a person’s outlook. Seeing a U.F.O has much in common with the mystical experiences of other eras, more than people think, and Spielberg has really grasped that sensation. In addition, ‘Close Encounters’ distanced sci-fi audiences from the popular Cold War era ‘good earthling’, ‘bad alien’ dynamics that were typical of science fiction films at the time, and made audiences start to truly contemplate what contact with an alien civilization would actually mean for us”.

The concert ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ / ‘Encuentros en la Tercera Fase’ will held on Friday 28th September at 20:00. Tickets are available at the Auditorio de Tenerife Box Office, and online at www.auditoriodetenerife.com.

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival 12 (FIMUCITÉ XII), which runs from Sept 21st – 29th, has been made possible thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the companies AUDI, Dorada Especial, & Teleférico del Teide, and the collaboration of SGAE – the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers.

THE THEREMIN, ICONIC MUSICAL INSTRUMENT IN SCI-FI FILMS, WILL BE HAVE THE LEADING ROLE IN THE SCREENING SEASON ORGANIZED BY FIMUCITÉ AND FILMOTECA CANARIA

- Screenings will take place from September 11th to October 25th both at Teatro Guiniguada and Multicines Tenerife.

- Lydia Kavina, the most renowned theremin player, will perform as a soloist at the Closing Gala.

- The theme of the screening season connects with the central axis of FIMUCITÉ’s program, which will include, among other concerts, the Spanish première of ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ live-to-picture show.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, August 01st, 2018.- 12th edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), together with Filmoteca Canaria, have organized the program 'Theremin, the science fiction music', a space dedicated to this particular electronic instrument - that is played without any form of contact with this musical device itself - and that has been used in numerous classic science fiction and horror films. The Festival, celebrated between September 21st and 29st, will revolve around the film genre devoted to extraterrestrial encounters and alien invasions. FIMUCITÉ 12 is possible thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council.

Filmoteca Canaria joins FIMUCITÉ with the programming of six films at the Guiniguada Theater in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and at Multicines Tenerife, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. Screenings will start on September 11th, the public will be able to enjoy 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' (1951), 'Forbidden Planet' (1956), 'The thing from another world '(1951), 'It came from outer space’ (1953), 'Ed Wood' (1994) and 'The Machinist' (2004). The projections will continue until October 25th with a price of € 2 for the general public and € 1 for students and people over 65 years old.

A season that matches with the main theme of FIMUCITÉ 12 program, which will include, among other concerts, the Spanish premiere of the film ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ and its soundtrack performed live by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and the Tenerife Film Choir under the baton of the festival director, the well-known Tenerife composer and orchestra conductor Diego Navarro. A historic cultural event in the Canary Islands, since it is the first time a Hollywood blockbuster will be performed and live while being screened, after being held in Australia and England.

The theremin, made of a box and two antennas, was created by the Russian musician and scientist Léon Theremin in 1934 for the Lithuanian violinist Clara Rockmore, who became the maximum representative of the technique and interpretation of theremim. Currently, Lydia Kavina, descendant of Léon Theremin, is the world's most important perfomer of this instrument, and has played in films like ‘eXistenZ’ by David Cronenberg, ‘Ed Wood’ by Tim Burton and ‘The Machinist’ by Brad Anderson.

Kavina will be one of the stars of the FIMUCITÉ’s Closing night Gala, where she will perform as a soloist under the baton of guest director Ben Foster. The appointment will be on September 29 at the Tenerife Auditorium Adán Martín and tickets are already on sale.

The mysterious sound of the theremin has fascinated great film directors and is part of many of the soundtracks that remain in our memories. Films such as Robert Wise's 'The Day the Earth Stood Still', Fred M. Wilcox's ‘Forbidden Planet’, Christian Nyby's 'The thing from another world’, 'It came from outer space’ by Jack Arnold, ‘The 5,000 fingers of Doctor T’ by Roy Rowland or ‘Spellbound’ by Alfred Hitchcock, include its peculiar sound.

-This year FIMUCINEMA kicks off with a special selection of non-competing works that have taken centre stage at the Muestra de Cine Astronómico de La Palma (MICA).

The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) official competition FIMUCINEMA, coordinated by Manuel Díaz Noda, has shortlisted a total of 21 short films, 6 documentaries, and 6 fiction feature films for the sixth edition of the competition. Finalists include entrees from Spain, the U.S.A, France, the U.K, Italy, Colombia and Poland. As with previous years, and in keeping with FIMUCITÉ’s philosophy of supporting and shining the spotlight on film music, these works will be competing for the following awards: the Alex North Award for Best Original Score in the category fiction feature films; the FIMUCINEMA Award for Best Original Score in the categories documentaries & short films; and the FIMUCINEMA Award for Best Original Song.

Presenting the awards this year will be the official competition president, Darío Palomo, who is both a composer and president of Musimagen: Asociación de Compositores de Música para Audiovisual. Acting as jury will be Antonio Herrera (Director of MICA), Pedro Ferrer (CEO of Ediciones Rosetta, the record label and publisher specialising in film scores) & Lamberto Guerra (actor, director, musician, and also winner of the FIMUCINEMA Award for Best Original Song 2016).

This year, in addition to competition finalists, FIMUCINEMA will also be presenting a special selection of works from the Muestra de Cine Astronómico de La Palma (MICA), including the jury award, the public award, and those that stand out for their musical value. This sample of non-competing works will be kicking off FIMUCINEMA activities on 21st September. All the selected works can be seen at Multicines Tenerife on the 22nd & 23rd of September, and at TEA - Tenerife Espacio de las Artes on the 24th and 27th of September. Admission is free; entry will only be restricted upon full house. Once again, the official competition poster was created by graphic designer Daniel Fumero of Limbo Kids studio. In alluding to the musical nature of the event, he was inspired by the space themes from both FIMUCITÉ and MICA.

The Official Selection will commence on Saturday 22nd September with the animated short films: ‘A Song For The Whales’, ‘The Fox’, ‘Meraki’, ‘Homesick’, ‘Grands Canons’, and ‘Invaders’. The programme will be complemented with the screening of the Polish film ‘Behind the Blue Door’, directed by Mariusz Palej. It is a film based on the novel by Marcin Szczygielski, and has a colourful score by the musician Michał Szablowski. The film, which takes us on a youthful and fanciful adventure, did well in the box office in its home country, and has won several awards from festivals across the globe.

On Sunday 23rd the zombie apocalypse hits FIMUCINEMA. There will be a double session full of humour, guts & gore, and nods to fantasy in its purest form with the screening of the films ‘Apocalipsis Voodoo’ by Canarian director Vasni Ramos and ‘Lost in Apocalypse’ by the Chinese director Sky Wang. The composer Sara López and musician Kike Perdomo provide the music for the Canary production, while Jason Gertel is responsible for the Chinese-American production.

Monday 24th will be dedicated to Canarian documentary. Within the audiovisual sector of the islands, this format has predominated as a result of the excellent quality of its productions, and its sensitive handling of the local environment and traditions. It is precisely these topics that converge in the three films selected: ‘Las Postales de Roberto’ by Dailo Barco, ‘Telúrico’ by Sergio Morales, and ‘El Huido’ by Pablo Fajardo. Musically speaking, they have involved a range of different artists, such as the group GAF, the singer Belén Álvarez Doreste, or the composer Samuel Aguilar.

Tuesday 25th will begin with a new selection short films containing national and international proposals. All of these films trace the gender narrative, but simultaneously map out discourse surrounding social divide: ‘L’hypothese de la Reine Rouge’, ‘Flow’, ‘Xyx’, ‘Tauro’ and ‘Insidia’. The documentary of the day will be ‘The Rise and Fall of the Brown Buffalo’, a film dedicated to the figure of Oscar Zeta Acosta, also known as Dr. Gonzo. He was a lawyer, writer, and activist in the Chicano Moratorium. He was also known for his friendship with the writer Hunter S. Thomson. The actor Benicio del Toro takes on the role of Dr. Gonzo in the film ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’ directed by Phillip Rodríguez, as well as being its executive producer. The film’s music is written by Aaron Drake and Alejandro Cohen. The screening session will close with a showing of ‘La Isla Rota’, a story of racism and revenge produced in the Dominican Republic, directed by Félix Germán, and with music by Sergio Jiménez Lacima.

On Wednesday 26th, the third instalment of the FIMUCINEMA competition brings audiences the short films ‘Small Fish’, ‘Coplillas for Bombay’, ‘Between the Volcano & The Shell’, ‘The Ladder’, ‘Duelos’ and ‘Exhalación’. Music takes centre stage in these films, and at times some of venture almost entirely into musical terrain. The feature film and documentary of the day take us to Texas and “oil fever”. Directed by Alan Thompson and with music by Ian Chen, the documentary ‘This Land’ analyses the effects of fossil fuel extraction methods and distribution chains on the environment and local indigenous communities. For its part, ‘The Iron Orchard’, directed by Ty Roberts with music by Duncan Thum, focuses on oil prospecting during the middle of the XX century in the United States.

FIMUCINEMA will close its programme on Thursday 27th September. The last section of short films will include ‘A Prinprick of Light’, ‘El Gigante y la Sirena’, ‘Las Otras Camas’, and ‘Distintos’. Each of these shorts deals with the topic of disability from different angles and perspectives. The documentary category will close with the screening of ‘Invierno en Europa’ by Polo Menárguez, with music by Luis Hernáiz. It tells the story of Pakistani and Afghani refugees who survive as best they can in an abandoned station.

The Chinese-American feature film ‘The Jade Pendant’ will be the last film to screen as part of FIMUCINEMA XI and will close the event. The film, directed by Po-Chih Leong and with music by Anne Kathrin Dern, is a historic drama exploring Chinese immigration in the United States during the second half of the XIX century.

FIMUCITÉ 12 been made possible thanks to the support and sponsorship of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, the companies AUDI, Dorada Especial, & Teleférico del Teide, and the collaboration of SGAE – the Spanish General Society of Authors and Publishers.

TENERIFE BECOMES ALONG FIMUCITÉ 12 THE WORLD CAPITAL OF FILM MUSIC

- More than 7,000 people enjoyed the Festival concerts and parallel activities

Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), sponsored mainly by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, the Canary Islands Government, and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, has closed its twelfth edition with the applause of over 6.100 people in the audience of the different concerts and hundreds of participants in its parallel activities. The organization is already working on the next Festival, which will take place from September 20 to 28, 2019.

FIMUCITÉ has confirmed this year its status, in the international arena, as possibly the most important festival in the world specializing in film music for both because of its program and the background of its guests, according to industry professionals.

The main theme of FIMUCITÉ 12, “The truth is out there”, a reference to X files, celebrating its 25th anniversary this September, has gathered a great line-up of guests: composer and orchestra conductor Ben Foster (Thunderbirds are go), who conducted the closing night Gala, or Laura Karpman (Taken), who received the FIMUCITÉ award for her career as a composer and her key position in the musical department in the Academy.

Christopher Young (Species) was also part of the exquisite guests, joining the festival again, ten years after his first attended FIMUCITÉ.

Amazing pianist Jean-Michel Bernard (The science of sleep), Nick Foster, who co-writes scores with his bother Ben, Óscar Martín (Red de libertad) and Carlos M. Jara (Reinas) were also part of the guests. Carlos M. Jara received the First “Premio de la Música para el Audiovisual Español” for his score for the Spanish TV series ‘Otros mundos’. Darío Palomo, musician and President of the Composers Association for the Audiovisual Musimagen, presented this new award, given by fellow composers.

The Festival, led by renowned composer and orchestra conductor Diego Navarro, confirmed this year its commitment to the promising young musicians of the island honoring the agreement started years ago with both Conservatoires: Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias and Conservatorio Profesional de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which gives the FIMUCITÉ Symphonic Youth Orchestra the opportunity to perform a challenging program at the beautiful Guimerá Theater.

“Colosos of the Silver screen”, conducted by José Antonio Cubas and Cristina Padrón, also involved the Krakow Film Festival, FMF, both festivals have worked tightly together in different projects, which include, for the first time this year, an exchange program of students from Tenerife travelling to Poland and vice versa. Six musicians from Krakow have joined the FSYO performing a repertoire devoted to the colossal monsters of cinema, from King Kong, both John Barry’s music for the 1976 film, as well as James Newton Howard for the 2005 one, to Godzilla (Akira Ifukube) or Jurassic Park from Williams, among others.

FIMUCITÉ celebrated for the first time a live-to-picture concert dedicated to Steven Spielberg's masterpiece “Close encounters of the third kind” and its legendary score, written by John Williams. This is a historic event, both the Spanish premiere of this concert and the first time ever to perform a live-to-picture concert in the Canary Islands.

The show, which was performed by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Diego Navarro and the Tenerife Film Choir and the Polyphonic Choir of the University of La Laguna, directed by Juan Ramón Vinagre, included eight minutes of unprecedented music composed by Williams and rescued by the composer for this version in concert of the feature film.

More than 400 musicians, gathered in different symphony orchestras, choirs and bands have participated in the different scenarios of FIMUCITE 2018 along the varied concert programs deployed over ten days.

In the words of the father of FIMUCITÉ, Diego Navarro, "The 12th edition of the festival has been an unprecedented success in the history of our festival. It is really exciting to see full houses in the 10 concerts celebrated. FIMUCITÉ is an international reference event within its scope, a multi-format festival that creates specific contents that continue to spread and keep music alive for the cinema. Projects that are subsequently exported to other similar events, so our festival continues to create a trend."

The third edition of the FIMUCITÉ Film Scoring Academy was also crowded, 110 students enrolled the sessions given at the Aula Magna of the Professional Conservatory of Music, a series of master classes given by award-winning artists and professionals of extraordinary international prestige.

The sixth edition of the official section of the Festival, FIMUCINEMA, also offered between 21 and 27 September the screening of 6 fiction feature films, 6 documentaries and 21 short films (free entry). Sergio Jiménez Lacima received the Alex North Award for the best original score for fiction feature film, for 'La Isla rota'. Luis Hernáiz was awarded with Best original score for documentary for 'Winter in Europe', Anthony Lledo for 'Invaders' (Best original score for short film) and Kike Perdomo and Vasni Ramos for 'Apocalipsis Voodoo' (Best original song).

One more year, FIMUCITÉ is very grateful for the support and collaboration of the different entities involved: Cabildo de Tenerife, Government of the Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Teide Cable Car, Tenerife Tourism, SGAE Foundation, Santa Cruz de Tenerife Professional Music Conservatory, Conservatory of Music of the Canary Islands, Más Led, Audi Canarias, Jean León, Excelsia Canarias, Compañía Cervecera de Canarias Dorada Especial, Lava Chocolates de Canarias and Communication Group El Día.
