I'd like to see the return of an OGG stream, as you apparently had one at one point (see FAQ). Ogg vorbis is open source and has better compression to quality ratio than MP3, WMA, or MP3 pro.
BTW, GREAT site you run here. I have a new favorite stream. |

Yesss... the Newbie FAQ is getting an overhaul in the next week or so once we move to the new server.
Search the forums, there are some rather in depth threads as to why we no longer have Ogg. |

being a new listener to this great station for about 2 weeks now I can hardly stand the 64kb MP3 stream.
So I would vote for a return of the OGG Stream since its far superior both in bandwith and sound quality to any MP3 format including Mp3Pro which I have installed amd can cannot hear a big difference on my rather high quality speakers. It just sounds compressed and flat.
I have searched the forum why the Ogg Stream was abandoned.
How much would it be a month to let the Ogg Stream return? Since I would consider myself a huge movie score fan I would be willing to spend a nickle or two on this radio station. |

We may bring a small amount of Ogg streams back when we move to the dedicated server.
But if you aren't noticing a big difference between MP3 and mp3PRO then there must be something you are missing.
Are you seeing 44kHz on your winamp? _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Yes I see 64kb/44khz. It sounds different, but not near as good as 64kb Ogg I am used to listen to Shoutcast in 128kb but would prefer Ogg in 64kb for bandwith reasons.
Keep up the good work!

What a lot of you ding dongs don't realize is that the SST stream library begins as a 128kps mp3 file that is then converted to 64kps mp3PRO and 32kps mp3PRO.
When doing a down conversion like that mp3PRO will sound better. This is what mp3PRO was specifically designed for. Not Ogg.
Unless we re-encode the entire CD library from scratch, Ogg will not sound better. |

That is true that it will never sound better than 128k MP3. We'll make some Ogg slots open so we can get some Icecast traffic and make the small percentage happy that we have it. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

I think that was the old forum. I posted as 'guest' there a couple of times before I registered. Cocles number is 14. Mine is 42, but we were both there when that forum (2nd version already, this is the 3rd) came online. |

I thought it kind of strange as well...Is this person scared to have an identity? They should join the SST community instead of posting just out of the blue? We're a friendly bunch here, aren't we? _________________ "Get it?...Got it!...GOOD!" -- The Court Jester |

Probobly he just forgot to login, that happens alot, especially if you're used to have cookie login.
But.. as far as I know it's not possible to reach the forums without being logged in here at SST |
