Come on now, don't bash Metallica. They're good kids. Or angry ones if you've seen the preview to their upcoming documentary, Some Kind of Monster. 
But you know what I mean. Composers aren't just hired because of their name, they're hired because of the style they will bring to the table.

one VERY blatant example is Michael Kamen (may he rest in peace). Though I love many of his scores....'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves' being of of my absolute favorites...I was totally horrified that he used an entire, unaltered theme first in 'Mr. Holland's Opus: Rowena's theme', and then as 'Logan and Rogue' in 'x-men' (the only standout theme in the whole movie really)
I still can't decide if he just REALLY liked the theme and wanted to showcase it to a wider viewing audience...or if he got bored or lazy and just threw it in...
we'll never know..
