I quite enjoy when composers take on the challenge of integrating period musical pieces into their score, The most obvious recent example being "Master and Commander".

My personal favorite - the score for 'Restoration' by James Newton Howard. He blends already quite popular baroque horn and folk tunes seamlessly into a sometimes sweet, sometimes thundering yet altogether poignant score.

I love the Restoration soundtrack too. There used to be an overstock of it and you could buy it for less than $5 shipped. Not the case now I see. I don't care much for 2001 though. They should have went with Alex Norths. But then again some of those tracks are famous because of the film. I enjoy M&C too.

Hi guys.

I signed up because I just had to ask you a question.

Did the composers you are referring to try to emulate a classical composers style or did they actually do an interpretation of an existing piece.

I know John Barry did a piece based on Paganini for Somewhere in Time.

I was referring to composers working an existing work into their score.

I like Restoration as well. Richard Robbins comes to mind when I think of integrating classical stuff into scores, i.e. Room with a View, Howard's End, and Jefferson in Paris.
