I know almost everyone includes them in their soundtracks. Just looking for soundtracks that have really beautiful french horns in it. (other than the obvious - lotr) They are my favorite (I also played the french horn).

Thanks

French horns sound great when used in war scores, that mournful, baleful almost longing sound they have (I'm thinking of Glory, Medal of Honor: Frontline). And aren't they used at the start of Dances With Wolves for a similar effect?

One of the best solo french horn parts can be heard in "Sleepers" by John Williams. And very difficult to play, too: The horn has to play full range, going up to the highest possible note - in pianissimo!

Oh, and "Alien 3" by Elliot Goldenthal! Fantastic horn writing, and again, very, very difficult. Kudos to the Hollywood Symphony for playing that stuff prima vista - it's hard to find such great horn players in Europe.

James Horner's Rocketeer - great horn pieces. Look at tracks: Flying Circus, Main Title/Takeoff, End Titles, etc.

Not suere are they French Horns, per se, but I always loved the deep, yet almost hollow brass that Danny Elfman has in the title to his first Batman piece...

I also like how it becomes a near battle for domination between teh strings and the brass at the very end... A wonderful indication of Wayne's mentality evident in the books, but somehow sadly lacking in this movie (which I loved regardless). Hopefully Nolan will be able to make a better show of it.
