Philip Glass, to score this summer's "Batman Begins'"
Marcus Mothersbaugh, The Hollywood Reporter
Another rejection for an original score for a major, big-budget comic book adaptation has taken place: James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer are no longer scoring Batman Begins.
Doug Frank, President of music at Warner Bros, announced that American composer Philip Glass (Koyaanisqatsi) will be the new composer onboard.
Philip Glass' music spans the worlds of grand opera, chamber music, dance and hybrid works that seem to fit into no particular category at all.
"Philip was somewhat resistant, at first, to score a giant, super hero picture," the Warner music-president said "but he's so fond of the [Batman] character and the musical potential, he really didn't want to pass it up - even if this will be the first time for him to score such a large-scale action movie.”
"Since his musical voice is so unique, we were very pleased with his acceptance."
Glass film scores include Godfrey Reggio's trilogy Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi; Errol Morris' The Thin Blue Line, A Brief History of Time and The Fog of War; Paul Shrader's Mishima; Bernard Rose's Candyman and Bill Condon's Candyman II; and an original score for the re-release of the 1930 Dracula with Bela Lagosi. Critically acclaimed film scores include Martin Scorsese's Kundun - which won Glass the LA Critics Award, as well as the Academy and Golden Globe nominations for Best Original Score - and original music for Peter Weir's The Truman Show - which won a Golden Globe Award for Best Score in 1999. Glass' most recent film work for Stephen Daldry's The Hours has also received a Golden Globe nomination.
Batman Begins hits theaters June 17. |

Actually we're switching over to Death Metal & Soundtracks.
We're going to play nothing but that and the new soundtrack The Cave along with Cannibal Corpse because they were in the Ace Ventura movie. Pretty cool eh? _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus
