Oh, cooooooool !!!

The club keeps growing Very Happy

It's also difficult to find hisaishi's soundtracks in France. We had some releases, at a time, but it seems this is over. Maybe they didn't sell enough copies to be profitable, who knows?

We had Totoro, Mononoke, Chihiro, A Scene at the Sea and I believe this is it! (Pompom and other french fellows, please correct me if I'm wrong)

A little bit off-topic, now, we were more lucky with the DVD releases (we have Mononoke, Chihiro, Castle in the Sky, Kiki, Cat Returns, Grave of the fireflies, etc...) , but it seems to be changing as well as many DVD and theater releases are postponed (according to ButaConnection). No Totoro DVD this year Sad but we hopefully get Howl by the end of the year! Smile

Perfectly true! That was a bad movie, but it had a good soundtrack Smile

There is also 'Le mecano de la general' (The General), a 1926 Buster Keaton movie which soundtrack was remade by Hisaishi. The movie was shown at Cannes in 2004 and also had a small theater release (but not in my town: didn't see it yet). The music is just great!!!

After looking into my own collection (and after reading your post about Howl's soundtrack cancellation), I found out that there were more scores released by Milan in France such as Brother, Kikujiro and Dolls. Some of these CDs even have french covers!

So, what are your preferred OSTs from Hisaishi?

Currently, mine would be Howl's Moving Castle (Image Album) which is a very nice piece of music, even as standalone (I started to hear this one months before the movie was released in France).

Then it would be Spirited Away for its nice mix between eastern and western music and especially for the Sixth Station which is without doubt my all time favorite.

Third would be Princess Mononoke (Orchestral score). The main theme is epic and romantic, kind of Horner-esque (in the best sense).

Giving an order doesn't make that much sense after all, but these are the ones I listen the most.

My least preferred would be the Nausicaa score, but that's mainly because of the synthetic sounds that I don't like much (or at least, not in that context). There are various orchestrations of the score which are brilliant (the one from Works I for instance). I still listen to the original score from time to time...

Your turn! Very Happy

Strictly OST's well I would have to say Howl's Moving Castle (image and OST), Spirited Away, Kikujiro and Totoro. I liked the American version of Kiki better than the full Hisaishi (I feel dirty for saying that!) OST.

For overall Hisaishi albums it is a toss up on Piano Stories II and III.

My choice would be Laputa. Because this is the first Miyazaki's movie I've watched when it release in Hong Kong about 1986. And I've brought this ost for more than a decade. I think I've a long attachment to the film and its ost. Totoro ,KiKi, Rosso are also my favourite. Very Happy

Oh, you were able to see the movie when it was first released, that's so great!

It seems you like the older soundtracks more than the current ones Wink

You're right Alchemist, I love the older ost more, but don't get me wrong, I also love Spirited Away & Howl too, may be after 10 years, I'll love them as much as I love Laputa! Smile
