How about an option in "request" to look for a specific genre of music (easy listening, classical...). I have noticed it is already listed for each album so hopefully it would not be too much of a hassle although I am afraid that most of the albums would fall under the "soundtrack" category.

On a second thought, maybe not a good idea after all. It seems that many ST fall under the category "soundtrack" (D'Oh...)

Hey, that's a great idea!
Going one step further, It would be cool to have checkboxes for, let's say
- Horror / Romance / Action / Comedy / Suspense / Dramatic / Mysterious /Ethno / Ambient / Rock / Americana / Folk / ...

It will be too much of a hassle though having to enter this kind data for all the CDs...

Your idea sounds better than mine. I prefer yours. Very Happy The problem is not to put a genre for each album, I could volonteer to do this on my spare time. My only concern is that some movies fall under different categories. For example: the Bourne Supremacy falls under Genre: Adventure / Mystery / Thriller / Action / Drama (more) according to IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372183/)

I wasn't necessarily thinking about movie categories, but about score categories (I wouldn't call John Powell's music for The Bourne Supremacy an "adventure score"). And of course checking multiple boxes should be allowed too.
E.g. if you check Electronic and Horror, you'll get Halloween by John Carpenter and Nightmare on Elm Street by Charles Bernstein and so on, if you check Ethnic and Action, you'll get Proof of Life by Danny Elfman and so on.

Who's volunteering to do the data entry for this?

I know this is digging up this old thread, but I had a similar thought about requesting based on genre. Is it possible to use the Genre listing already with the album? Correct me if I'm wrong... aren't Artist, Year, and Album sorted by the info on the album information?

The genres I know of are: Anime, Game, Soundtrack.

Not to dig up an old thread, but to avoid redundancy with a new one...

I like the idea of expanding the Genre categories a bit. I don't see the need to go overboard by trying to categorize each individual track; it would be sufficient to categorize each album. I also don't see the need to try to categorize by movie genre. So here is what I would suggest, off the top of my head:

Motion Picture (currently the majority of the playlist)
Anime (as it is now)
Game (as it is now)
Television (includes series, miniseries, jingle compilations)
Musical (for all you lovers of this genre)
Classical (as it is now)
Compilation (in case this merits a category of its own)

And my new favorite:
Trailer (for Unearthed, Epicon, Requiem for a Tower, and surely soon to be more)

It would then perhaps be appropriate to enable searching the playlist by Genre.

And with the new album correction module already in place, this could be a group effort. All the mods/admins would have to do is decide on the categories and approve corrections!

Very Happy

That is an EXCELLENT idea, BUT it would require a lot of time! With over 2500 albums and them store in 2 different places we would spend so much time on it. I can see us doing this though but a little far out in the future.

But wouldn't this be rather simple if we enable changes via the corrections in the album module? That way the labor would be divided among many. Just a thought...

Unfortunately no. The Make A Correction feature generates an automatic email to the Admin in charge of Quality Control (currently me). I then go into the database on the server and make the corrections manually.

And you mean you don't want to be responsible for making corrections on 2500 albums? Laughing

I see this won't be so simple after all...

Hahahaha, Luther. Laughing

But now that you mention it, since I've already made hundreds of corrections, guess it wouldn't be all that hard to click on a "Genre" button at the same time.

Actually it's a little more complicated than that - it involves setting up another category and editing the embedded tags. Not impossible - just time-consuming. I'm willing if Jeric is. Maybe this is something we can tackle later when the current, more pressing business is done. I really like the idea of being able to search the Playlist by genre.

The first step you need to do is define the genre list and have a pretty good idea which score/track should go where. That does not sound like an easy task to me.
