The thing is that people don't start with the really bad drugs they start with the easy, 'safe' ones like cigarettes and alcohol, then marijuana. Stop kids from trying those and they most likely will never get to cocaine and heroin.

Holy crap! [Big Grin] I am feeling the heat boy and girls. Lets cool down a bit huh? Okay. First of to cocles. Hmmm i gave hm crap beacuse at the end of my second post is said i wasn't finished yet. the fact that i had typed that message and he replied that quickly was shocking. being that i was finishing my post, i had noticed it. [Roll Eyes]

Okay and saying i never had a position on the thread does not mean that i am loosing. Because this wasn't a competition. I started up a controversial topic for people to talk about. [Big Grin] I was ineterested in seeing the different view points. i could careless what people do. So please people lets not attack. I have respected and tried to understand all of your views. and they all come across as all of you being reall nice people with lots of concern for others. i think thats great. BUT I was playing devils Advocate. Being the opposing side so that you could have some form of debate.

Thank you for all thos links wolf. I have quite a bit of knowledge on the topic. but you gave me more. And most of this thread as it began was me joking. and playing the bad guy.
[Smile]

Sarbear, i understand the gateway drug theory. But i find it strange that they don't, or rarely do mention alcohol. And like yak said, well the was on alcohol would be shot down. THATS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM! but anyways...

As for cocles again an extremist is one who will not see any other side but their own. Those kinda people are usually the bible beaters [Wink] in your words.

And my main thing that i wanted to get across is that knowledge is the power. We need to educate people. Schools barley touch on this topic. there should be more devoted to getting kids off drugs. another point is that more than half the people that do these drugs, don't want to do them. It we be nice to have a better way to get them over their need. A cheaper way for them would definatly encourage them to do this.

As for you yak. instead of ever considering any other view point you have stuck to your own. I find that admirable but at the same time sad. For you to call my post nothing but babble. Come on buck-o, I at least read everything. I understand that maybe my post was too long, and that you are most likely a slow reader, but if thats the case. Then say so. don't discredit my posts, and not even read them. [Smile] This topic is over!!!

Legolas: "yes but you mentioned alcohol. as a door to new drugs."
(Mon 10:09am)

sarbear: "It just didn't make sense.. I was offereing a reason for why they focus on marijuana. I thought it was odd that you brought in an unrelated area in response."
(Mon 10:08am)

Legolas: "i am saying why not have comercials for booze like the do for cigarettes. the ones that just say don't do it if under 21."
(Mon 10:07am)

Legolas: "yeah but only at the end of a comercial telling grown ups to drink it."
(Mon 10:07am)

sarbear: "they do, but they can't say don't drink alcohol at all even though it is legal... they say don't drink and drive and don't drink under 21 "
(Mon 10:06am)

Legolas: "and some consider that more deadly than pot"
(Mon 10:05am)

Legolas: "Yeah and my response was that they don't focus on alcohol either."
(Mon 10:04am)

sarbear: "Well, my post was in response to your point that they didn't focus on stronger drugs in the commercials,...."
(Mon 10:04am)

Legolas: "the forum. what do you mean huh?"

Legster, you were the one that was amazed that I posted in three minutes. Now I'm a slow reader? Make up your mind. At least that way I'll know what I am. And I'm sorry for calling your post babble; it was mostly that big 12-line paragraph about Sweden that I found pretty intimidating. Way to come back with the slow-reader comment, though; what a gut-punch.

And I do consider other viewpoints. I just consider "legalize all drugs" wrong. Why is it automatically sad just because I disagree with you? Why isn't Eyedea sad, or Wolf sad? If you had said something that I agreed with, then... I would have agreed with you. I don't think there is any middleground with drugs.

Playing devil's advocate is cool... but go back and read your first post. It's a half-page long and very spirited. Sure doesn't sound like you never had a position.

Yeegads, I'm actually getting private messages now to join this debate.

Alright, here it is.

Leggy, stop using the word, "legalize." That's what's getting you in trouble. What's going on over in Europe (especially in England) is not the legalization of narcotics, but the medicalization of them.

This is not rehab, where they lock you up and you go cold turkey. It also has nothing to do with socialism. Medicalization is the ability for doctors to prescribe narcotics to addicts.

With the drugs now readily available under a doctor's supervision (and for much less money since they are no longer contraband), the addict is able to invest their now freed up time and money into putting their life back together. Over time they are wheened off of their addiction.

Argue all you want, but so far it's been working.
