hmmm. Horner hits me in a place that no other composer can touch and I respect Williams for producing as good a combination of quality and quantity as anybody, but for my money I think Goldsmith was the most talented composer we've had the opportunity to hear. Some of my favorite cues:

1. "End Titles" from Alien. Sublimely beautiful theme, in this particular track brought to a rousing climax the way only Goldsmith and (classic) Horner could do.

2. "Main Title" from Patton. Another great trumpet theme, with canny use of the echoplex to give the score a timeless feeling.

3. "The Klingon Battle" from Star Trek: TMP. Driving, relentless cue on the heels of the beautiful "Ilia's Theme" and the bold "Main Title". Love that blaster beam.

4. "The Light" from Poltergeist. Haunting and eerie, the most moving cue I'm able to recall from Goldsmith.

5. Something less cliche, like "The Wrong Flag" from Lionheart, "Moving Day" from The Secret of N.I.M.H., or "First Attack" from The Blue Max". I'm not such a big fan of Goldsmith's style when it comes to action sequences especially when I have no affinity for the movies themselves, but these are pulse-pounding cues.
