I might carry on from where Luther_III left off (great idea btw, Luther) so why not start with the master himself: John Williams.

There are many compilations made from the work of John Williams. The two I have in my collection are:

Close Encounters The Essential John Williams Music Collection

Disc 1
1. End Credits (from "Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom")
2. Hymn to the Fallen (from "Saving Private Ryan")
3. Main Themes (from "Hook")
4. When You're Alone (from "Hook")
5. Overture (from "The Cowboys")
6. End Credits (from "Born on the Fourth of July")
7. End Titles (from "Family Plot")
8. Arlington (from "JFK")
9. End Titles (from "JFK")
10. Exultate Justi (from "Empire Of The Sun"
11. Universal Emblem / Hilary's Plight / Double Crossed / Tallow Hoe(from "The Rare Breed")
12. Scottish Romeo / The Hunt (from "The Rare Breed")
13. On His Own (from "The Rare Breed")
14. The Cross-Breed / End Credits (from "The Rare Breed")

Disc 2
1. Main Theme (from "The Towering Inferno")
2. Dry Your Tears Afrika (from "Amistad")
3. Love Theme (from "Superman")
4. Main Theme (from "Superman")
5. Main Theme / Love Theme (from "The River")
6. Suite: Fugue, Scherzo & Finale (from "Black Sunday")
7. Main Theme (from "Jaws")
8. Main Title (from "Star Wars")
9. Han Solo & The Princess (from "The Empire Strikes Back")
10. Imperial March (from "The Empire Strikes Back")
11. The Conversation Begins / Main Title / Resolution & Finale(from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind)
12. End Titles (from "Presumed Innocent")
13. Theme (from "Schindler's List")
14. End Credits (from "Indiana Jones & The Last Crusade")

John Williams Greatest Hits 1969-1999

Disc 1
1. Main Title From "Star Wars"
2. Flying Theme From "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial"
3. Main Title From "Superman"
4. Parade Of Slave Children From "Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom"
5. Theme From "Sugarland Express"
6. Theme From "Jaws"
7. Bugler's Dream/Olympic Fanfare And Theme
"Bugler's Dream" By "Leo Arnaud", "Olympic Fanfare And Theme" By "John Williams",
8. Luke And Leia From "Return Of The Jedi"
9. Main Title From "The Reivers"
10. The Imperial March From "The Empire Strikes Back"
11. Scerzo For Motorcycle And Orchestra From "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade"
12. Cadillac Of The Skies From "Empire Of The Sun"
13. The Riders' March From "Raiders Of The Lost Ark"
14. Suite From "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind"

Disc 2
1. Hymn To The Fallen From "Saving Private Ryan"
2. Theme From "Jurassic Park"
3. Theme From "Schindler's List"
4. Flight To Neverland From "Hook"
5. Seven Years In Tibet From "Seven Years In Tibet"
6. Prologue From "JFK"
7. The Days Between From "Stepmom"
8. March From "1941"
9. Somewhere In My Memory From "Home Alone"
10. Summon The Heroes Written For The Centennial Celebration Of The Modern Olympic Games, Atlanta
11. Look Down, Lord Reprise And Finale From "Rosewood"
12. Theme From "Far And Away"
13. Theme From "Born On The Fourth Of July"
14. Duel Of The Fates From "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantome Menace"

There are so many great cues in these compilations I really can't find fault with them. But what other cues would you include on your own John Williams compilation?

I would include:
Stored Memories and Monica's Theme from A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Theme From Angela's Ashes from Angela's Ashes
I Can't Believe It's Real from Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Over The Moon from E.T.
Fawkes The Phoenix from Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets
Jane Eyre Theme from Jane Eyre
Hologram/Binary Sunset from Star Wars (1977)
Leaving Home from Superman The Movie
A Prayer For Peace from Munich

Looking forward to seeing your choices

Snowy

Hey SnowLeapord, I'm glad to see that someone else picked up on this idea.

Wow, the sheer volume of Williams' material makes it difficult to pick cues in addition to the many compilations out there. One could make an entire 'best cues' compilation just out of the Star Wars material!

I don't think I know his material well enough to contribute, but I think you have made some worthy additions. Wink

I am also anxious to see how others weigh in...

Thanks Luther.

I agree that much of his work has been covered in many compilations. However, some of them do make predictable choices and it would be interesting to see what tracks outside of the familiar main themes are favourites.

Then there are the works which often aren't mentioned: Earthquake, The Poseidon Adventure, Midway, The Missouri Breaks, Dracula, Heartbeeps, The River and Always. Has anyone heard the Monsignor score?

We must be able to uncover enough new tracks for a SST-voted compilation!

You guys are right...there is such a vast amount of work it's hard to pick. However, here are just a few that stand out in my mind.

"Princess Leia's Theme" -Star Wars: A New Hope
"Cantina Band" (the original!!) ''
"Buckbeak's Flight" -HP & Prizoner of Azkaban
"Mischeif Managed" - '' (covers all the great parts of that score)
"Sean and Lara" -Minority Report

Paul...it's funny you mention his NBC music. We played the "Nightly News" theme song (don't know the actual title?) when we did a John Williams marching band show back in high school. That was probably my favorite show. Smile

That wasn't DCI Cadets 2000 by any chance??

I have a MP3 copy of it but it just sounds like a regular version of the NBC News theme..
