It's time to take a ride from Pixar to Purgatory Evil or Very MadTwisted EvilEvil or Very MadTwisted EvilEvil or Very Mad.. Shocked

With The Omen passing through our cinemas right now, and the horror genre crowded with recent remakes, it seems topical to ask what is your favourite horror movie remake. Twisted Evil

You don't need to have seen the original to vote or comment. I am not asking you to vote based on a comparison of the original and remake (though if you have seen both, then great!), but just on your favourite amoungst these movies that are grouped
together by their genre and a particular movie trend. Twisted Evil

I had to cull some movies as the poll list would have been too long, but I have listed them here, and are covered by the option 'Other' in the poll. If you feel they should have been in the poll, then speak!! Evil or Very Mad

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) / (1974)
The Hills Have Eyes (2006) / (1977)
House On Haunted Hill (1999) / (1959)
Carrie (2002) / (1976)
Cat People (1982) / (1942)
Night Of The Living Dead (1990) / (1968)
Nosferatu (1979) / (1932)
Psycho (1998) / (1960)
The Shining (1997) / (1980)
13 Ghosts (2001) / (1960)
Willard (2003) / (1971)
Village Of The Damned (1995) / (1960)

How do I feel about horror? Well, I like movies in all genres and horror is no exception, though I prefer my horror psychological rather than visceral. Many horror films show too much explicit violence and I don't have a strong enough stomach for that.

My vote goes to a film that I think might be an outsider: Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. It relies on a slow build up of tension and dread until a ending that is quite disturbing, particularly for a mainstream American film. It also has Leonard Nimoy in a non-Star Trekky role! Smile

Don't forget to vote in my poll for your favourite score to a horror movie remake. Smile

I'm such a huge fan of the original horror flicks, it's hard to pick a remake. But if I had to pick one... I think that the remakes of all the zombie flicks Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead & Land of the Dead were much better than I thought they would be.

I have to agree with S_T here and give John Carpenter's The Thing my vote, with Coppola's Dracula a close second.

Everyone would expect artistry out of Coppola, but I have to say Carpenter somehow made a masterpiece out of what should have been a ridiculous B-movie. Very well done. Wink

Tough choice. I've been watching tons of horror movies lately, and I've found I like many of them, so here are my choices to those remakes I've seen that I like, from that extensive list since I find myself unable to pick only one.

The Fly (Love everything Cronenberg does)
The Grudge (Surprisingly entertaining and way creepy)
The Ring (Infinitely better, imo)
The Thing (Icky but tons of fun)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (Wonderful in every respect)
Dawn of the Dead (Those zombies can run!)
Inv. of Body Snatchers (Kaufman is one of my fave filmmakers)
Hills Have Eyes (Terribly intense and scary)
Cat People (One word: Sexy!)
Nosferatu (A stunningly gorgeous film)

This is not the say any of the originals are inferior to the remakes, but I think all of these are smart and worthy reimaginings! Smile

Asriana you are so cool Smile
I love all dead movies and their remakes. When did they remake the Thing?? I loved that movie, at least the one in the 80's that is...

Yep, definitely The Thing for me. I remember seeing this back in the 80s when I can't have been more than about 10 or 11 years old and I was absolutely terrified.
So, if only for that reason!
