I think this was asked in the ? thread once, but I couldn't find anything else in the forums that covered this topic, so:
Who (what?) is your favorite superhero, and, to make it more interesting, why?
For me, there's no better superhero than The Amazing Spider-Man.
Why? Kinda geeky guy finds himself with super powers...his girlfriend/wife is a redhead...what's not to like? I love how Stan Lee and Marvel are able to make their heros seem like regular folks. It's usually very easy to see yourself in similar situations.
So, what about you?

Iron Man was my favorite as a kid mostly because his armor suit was awesome!

Batman.
I've always believed Batman's appeal lay in two directions — men want to be him, women think they can change him.
For me, it's always been a little of both. I don't want his neuroses, though. The money would be nice.
I find him the most consistently interesting of the supers. When he's done well, anyway. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

Batman. for two reasons:
1. he doesn't have a super "power" - his brain gets him through. sure, being a billionaire helps, with access to all of those gadgets, but who else would even think of that stuff?
2. the duality / dark side of his character - the conflict of how much of a bad guy does the good guy have to be in order to fight (and win) some of the battles he takes on? and then look in the mirror the next day?
when i was younger, i loved wonder woman, supergirl and batgirl, b/c that's all we girls had, but batman's the one that stands out as an adult.
and my favorite incarnation of the batman story:

Well put, wrabbit! The Animated Series rocks in so many ways on so many levels!
I loved Wonder Woman when I was younger. I'd probably still like her, but I feel I don't know the character very well.
My personal heroine, then and now, is Princess Leia. She was the best. Not really a super hero, but she was a girl who could shoot guns and hang out with the boys and rescue them at times. And she still had all these great costumes! They really don't make 'em like her any more. _________________ I have a book coming out. Wanna see it?

Fun topic, j2!
I have 2 faves, even though I've never been much of a reader of follower of comics.
Spider-man
I wanted to be him when I was a kid. Maybe, like j2 said, I could identify with him because he was a kid and kind of awkward. But the man can walk on walls! I was always climbing on stuff when I was a kid, getting stuck in trees, wedging myself between doorframes and hallway walls. So naturally I had an affinity with the king of climbers, Spidey!
Wolverine
I think mainly I thought he looked cool, plus I became a big fan of the Michigan Wolverines when my best friend moved to Ann Arbor in the first grade. I kind of like his dark side, I think. And those claws. _________________ "If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.... You know, the Drizzle...when he was, uh...as a kid, he was bitten by a thirsty worm in a science lab accident, eh, radioactive stuff. ...I don't know how it happened, but I swear from the day on, he was able to manipulate the rain, and THAT is FRESH!!!!

My favourite superhero was Superman!!
The only cartoon superhero I watched as a boy. I understand why people like Spiderman, Batman, etc because they are more complex characters, but I loved the simple moral world presented in the Superman stories, where good and bad are clearly defined and good always prevails.
I also enjoyed the adventures of Superboy..
and I had a soft spot for Krypto

Although I love spidey and batman as well. _________________ 'He looked at her, and being a man whom pity deeply stirred, it seemed to him that her loveliness amid her grief would pierce his heart.' —Faramir's thoughts on Éowyn |

Although he's not really a "super-Hero", but published by DC comics. I'd have to say "Dream of The Endless". A character based in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman, a Graphic Novel series.

But, if it has to be a "True" comic book superhero, then I'd have to go with The Flash....As Barry Allen, mind you. _________________ "Two wrongs do not make a right, but three rights make a left"
