I'm sure you guys are aware of it, but the timer in the now playing box, no longer counts down until the end of the track playing. It seems to be stuck.

It seems that the countdowntimer has been completely removed.
I'm (also) curious why this has been done.

It was using too many resources which caused the stream to buffer when 200+ people refresh at the same time. My hope is that this is temporary until we can make our database more efficient.

@Jeric:

Would it save resources if you would show the (server)time at which the current song started playing or will stop playing (in combination with the track length of course)? This can be displayed statically since it only changes for each song (which requires some server processing anyway) and it's a simple variable to keep track off. People still would have an idea how much time is left in the current song, which is what the timer is all about, but you would do away with the syncing Smile

I reckon that's a great idea from Albi! The timer was always off sync anyway, so I would never ACTUALLY know when the end of the song actually was. Just a time (according to the clock in the chat window) of when the song started would be great... and we are already given the length of the song!

Just a little maths would give you the end time..... (unless we wanna be lazy and you could put the end time in too)

Keep up the great work JERIC

Can't this kind of timer be done via client-side scripts, thus keeping the load off the server? Or am I misunderstanding what's causing the load?

The load is from everyone's Now Playing page refreshing simulatenously while creating a huge MySQL load on the SAM server (not the WEB server).

That is a good idea but I prefer to get the timer back instead, but this time working more effeciently so it won't loadspike out the SAM server (Dual)CPU.

In "SST 1.5" we will see if we can include the timer again.
