Basil Poledouris, famous composer (and one of my favorites) of scores like Conan The Barbarian, Robocop, Starship Troopers sadly passed away yesterday in Los Angeles.

This is a very sad day, R.I.P. Basil.

Shocked

Basil Poledouris died of cancer, just like Jerry Goldsmith 2 years before.
I was always wondering why he wouldn't continue scoring or at least doing concert work,

He was a very well skilled artist, who is now no longer with us.

My sympathies for his family and may he rest in peace.

What an empty feeling. I just
cannot get used to this. To lose
Jerry and then Elmer... I had
not gotten over that and now,
to lose Basil...

Basil Poledouris was a special
composer. He was one, who em-
braced the need for NOW, without
letting go of the rich past that
help made him. His themes were
always rich and I believe, very
compelling; always anchored in
tradition.

It's still hitting me how young
he actually was and how much
more he could have given us. I
am so sorrowful because I be-
lieve he was one of the last
of his kind and I know film-
scoring will never be the same
because of his leaving.

He was a hero, like his Conan
and Robocop. I admit that I did
not appreciate him as much as I
could have (the old story) and I
am ashamed but I know I will
never ever forget him.

Basil forever!!

This is so sad. Goodbye Basil.

I'm currently listening to his scores. His wonderful music is still alive!

Conan The Barbarian was the score that introduced me to filmmusic as a 14 year old. That was 13 years ago so to me it is a sad goodbye.

I shall make additions to this post later, but I wanted to quickly post a youtube video that is a great interview with Basil Poledouris about his score for Conan. Basil will definitely be missed!

Btw, thank you, Jeric, for the
musical and banner tributes, to-
day for Basil. They were really
touching. I so appreciate it.

And everyone who dedicated to
Basil, today, it really warmed
my heart to see you think of him.
Thank you, as well.
