Few of us will get a chance to see even a fraction of all the movies that are released in 2006, but we do get to see the movie posters, so I thought it would be interesting to see which had an impact on you.

We'll do this in two stages. First, let me know what are your 5 favorite movie posters for this year. I have surfed the net and whittled the number down to the last 45 (see below), based on what I have read around the Web and some of my own personal choices. Each thumbnail is a clickable link so you can see a larger version of the poster (and don't forget to click the button on the bottom right hand corner of the poster once the new window opens up to see an even bigger version). If your favorites aren't shown here, by all means let us know.

If I get enough responses, I will gather the Top 10 nominated posters and we can vote in a Poll for the Best Movie Poster of 2006.

My choices at the end.

My Top 5 Posters for 2006:

5. An Inconvenient Truth
References another penguin movie for a very clever poster
4. Pan's Labyrinth
Dark, forbidding and beautiful.
3. Miami Vice
Fantastic design & so evocative of the movie and the TV show. I think this is the Russian poster.
2. Ice Age 2
Clever again, and cute.
1. Cars
Animation will always get a head start because of all the colours, but this one has exceptional composition. I'd love it on my wall!! Smile

Honorable mentions go to Little Miss Sunshine, The Devil Wears Prada, V For Vendetta, Perfume & Saw 3 (horrible image, but it sure is effective).

OK...now it's your turn. Mr. Green

Cool Topic Snow!!! This was a really tough decision for me, but here are my favorites (I actually listed 6 and then a few honorable mentions Cool ) in no particular order:

Cars: I agree with Snow, this is a cool poster with all of the characters and bright colors.

Charlotte's Web: A story I remember from my childhood and the movie poster just does a wonderful job capturing what I had envisioned in my head. A simple poster with wonderful colors!

Casino Royale: Everything about the poster for me says Bond, James Bond. You have cool lighting, poker table, gun....

Lucky Number Slevin: Once again simplicity but just a cool lookin poster for a cool movie.

Promise(Wu Ji): I love the coloring on this poster and the beautiful writing as well!

Underworld Evolution: Kate Beckinsale in leather, Nuff Said!

My honorable mentions: Perfume: Story of a Murderer (Simple and beautiful), Lady in the Water (love the coloring and intergration of the different aspects of the story), Flags of our Fathers (great picture encapsulating the Iwo Jima scene so many are familiar with) and The Nativity Story (simple, elegant and good coloring).

great topic!

my favorites from 2006 off of the list above, are world trade center, saw III, and pan's labyrinth.

i also agree with nate's pick of lucky number slevin. (i know, its shocking, but nate and i finally agree on something!)

i'd also add "the hills have eyes" b/c its just f---ing creepy. "one night with the king" b/c its just kind of beautiful, composition and image. also, "pathfinder" b/c its so interesting. i still have no idea what that movie is about.

but if i have to pick top 5...in no particular order:
1. saw III
2. lucky number slevin
3. pathfinder
4. one night with the king
5. world trade center

honorable mentions then to hills have eyes and pan's labyrinth. also honorable mention to "night at the museum". for some reason, i really like that poster. its fun.

I liked a lot of these posters - hard to choose my faves. Here are a couple.

1. World Trade Center - I was impressed by this poster, took a lot of thought for a difficult topic and was simple and iconic.

2. Volver - This poster with eyecatching red and lovely pic of Penelope Cruz was very recognizable.

3. Flags of Our Fathers - A poster nice enough to frame in one's home for historical reasons.

4. Lady in the Water - Very blue, otherworldly, and mysterious. Liked how the flashlight and small figures were blended into the background.

5. Charlotte's Web - Like Nate, I felt a bit of childhood nostalgia when I looked at this poster. Thought it conveyed the fascination of Wilbur gazing at Charlotte.

In no particular order:

I love the Little red ridinghood "theme".

Even though the story scares me this poster makes me want to see the movie (Both the european poster and the american one).

Just plain out beautiful setup and colour theme.

The poster for the danish animated movie "Princess" (there are more than this I think, but couldn't find those).

Because of the old-ish look (I'm guessing this is the european design).

I think these are missing:

There's just no way I could pick the best one from this incredible selection. But the Tales From Earthsea caught my eye the first time I saw it and I've had it as a screensaver ever since.

SNOW - you rock, my friend!! What an amazing topic.

It's danish so how could I not! Smile
No seriously, ever since I heard Morgenthaler was making that movie I wanted to see it.
But I missed it in the cinema *cry* and somehow I haven't seen it in Blockbuster yet!...*sigh*

I'm a bit late, but the Internet Movie Poster (IMP) Awards were announced in late January. It's a website worth checking out if you like movie poster art.

One of my favourites in 2006 and all time is the following teaser poster for "Layd in the Water":

But the official one is also great, especially this red-eyed wolf on the left:

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
