I heard something weird a couple of days ago listening to the new ogg stream. One of the tracks I heard (think it was the Prince of Egypt score, not sure, but something I've certainly listened to before) and it sounded really bad for a 128kbps ogg stream, (like it had come from a 64kbps mp3 stream).

How exactly do these songs become encoded into each stream? There must be some sort of transcoding process around because I can't see a server hosting flac files. Razz Not really a problem so to speak, just really odd, so I'm asking for curiousity's sake. Wink

Well, a lot of the files are in WMA Lossless actually. The degraded sound quality is most likely from the processing end which compresses, expands, and limits the sound. It's been hard to find the happy-medium where the sound quality is best and people don't always have to adjust their volumes.

I kind of figured it was a specific instance since it only happened that once and everything else on that stream has been perfectly fine. Smile I understand with the normalization probably making a mess of the quieter tracks where there's meant to be some huge dynamics.

Just wanted to know the process.
