Royalites
I want to let everyone know that despite the recent CRB ruling, we will prevail. We've been through this before and we will get through it again, thanks to the incredible support by you. We have plenty of avenues to take so I am certain we will be fine. To read more on this visit: http://www.savenetradio.org/

Server
Despite the royalty increase we are building a new server. This server will replace the 2 that we currently have. There are several reasons why we need to do this.

- Running out of disk space. We love having our source files in Lossless WMA which ensures the best quality listening experience for you.
- Dropping 64-bit so we can have MP3, WMA and better Ogg streams. This includes compatibility for iTunes and Real Player and having a web player.
- So we can add more stations to the 24seven.FM family.
-We may have some disks starting to fail.

Now here is the fun part (for me). This is a glance at what I plan on building starting this week.
http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=4393771

The new server will have 8 CPU cores and 1.5TB disk space!!! I plan on buying the 1U barebones server this week with 1G of RAM which Twopop has already contributed to and one DFM member has pledged 1 hard drive. That leaves 3G of RAM, 3 HDDs, and 2 CPUs. Please let me know if you would like to purchase a component or simply donate so your contribution shows on the meter that has been recently raised to support this.

Ads
You may notice the banner in the now playing has been changed. I had to change it because our Google revenue has been cut to a third of what we were used to. Please report any inappropriate or intrusive ads to me. I apologize if some of the ads are annoying but it is necessary for now. Last thing I want to do is cheapen the quality of SST.

Thank you everyone so much for your support!!!

Jeric,

Sorry, but most of the ads are annoying, vibratiing types designed to get your attention. Also, some of them ARE coming from very questionable source, such as "spyware blocking", "YOU HAVE WON!!!!!", etc.

I used to keep SST on my second monitor so I could see what was coming up. But now I shrink it and only look once-in-awhile.

JERIC - Thanks for doing all you do to keep SST the beSST site on the web! I'm glad to hear that SST will endure whatever the CRB dishes out.

One quick question: do you plan to keep the 32K stream?

Thanks!

Yeah, the ads are annoying, but I can live with 'em... usually... except... Wink
I keep seeing a Lycos ad that comes with sound. Rolling Eyes
If it would be possible to keep ads with sound to a minimum?
Then again... whatever keeps SST afloat, I'm all for it!

Just wondering... which do you prefer? People buying the things you mentioned or donations so you can go get the stuff you actually want? Wink

I plan to become VIP, although I will not use 128 kbit, because of "Fair user policy" of our provider.(limited ammount of downloaded data)

If there won't be 64 kbit, then only 32K? 64K was fine.

And why are you returning to mp3 and OGG, when AAC seems to be have the best quality?

Still I understand you are doing the best for us!

Thank you

Of course! I hope to have the addition of MP3 32k streams.

Hmm, I filtered out ads with sound. I'll have to complain about that.

I will not be getting rid of any streams except maybe the 128k aacPlus converting to 128k MP3. We'll see. All other streams will remain.

With reference to the banner ads... the animated ones certainly drive me nuts. I don't mind static ads being there (or ones with minimal movement). Like Cat (above) I have SST on a second monitor so I can see the cover art (this makes the SST experience so much better for me).

But the crazy jumpy, bouncing banner ads are VERY distracting. So much so, that I open up a "sticky" to cover that area of my screen. That way, I don't see any ads at all.

If there is any way to restrict excessive animations, that would be great.

I changed it back to Google ads. Thanks everyone for expressing your concerns.

I'm not seeing any banner ads either...

Is this because I'm a VIP?

They may be "hidden in plain sight" KenD. They're right in the middle of the Now Playing area at the top of every page on the site.

Thanks to everyone who contributed toward the new server this month!!! I've been taking pictures of the build process. To see them, visit the Gallery.

SST Menu > Features > Gallery > Choose the Server Pics Gallery

I also uploaded pictures of the current servers and the first one I built.

Direct link to the new server:
http://www.streamingsoundtracks.com/modules.php?name=gallery2&g2_itemId=18581

I'm waiting for one more hard drive to come in and I can start getting stuff ready to transfer over.

The server upgrade will include around 780 albums that were previously stored as 128k MP3 into Lossless WMA! BQ has been working her butt off to get this upgrade done.

Song statistics will be reset because of the upgrade too. This includes how many times a song was played and Your Requests. This does not include album ratings.

Thanks again everyone! Enjoy the pics!

Very cool. I love to see the differences between the 2003 desktop server and your new one. Congrats on the new toy.

Expect my donation at the end of the month when I get paid.
