Unplayed is kind of meaningless, since the stats have been reset 2-3 times just in the last year. At best, it's "unplayed since the last reset." |

An unplayed day (or 'unplayed since last reset' day) is not a bad idea.
There are quite a few albums that are never picked, or only by SAM in the quiet hours.
And there are albums where only 1 or 2 tracks get picked several times and the rest of the tracks stay on 0 plays.
These albums are either by composers that have many albums and only the best known albums get picked all the time (for example: John Williams and Ennio Morricone) or they are from composers that are not well known and have only one or two albums in SSTs library.
So in my opinion Geomancer's 'unplayed' day is a good idea. _________________ The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy on Flying: The knack of throwing yourself at the ground and miss.

Thanks, stefan_nl.
It might be good way to get some more albums rated on the site.
To pick an unplayed/ unrated track I use the 'browse' buttons (Artist, Album, Year). |

Going off of the letter theme.... a local radio station does what they call "Barrel of Monkeys" weekends... where the title of each song begins with the last letter of the previous song. Numbers are spelled out and punctuation is ignored.
just a thought.

That sounds like a lot of fun! Reminds me a bit of the time when natedogg started a "Composers from A-Z Day".
One could do it with either track titles, albums or composers... _________________ "Welcome to the paranoia club; cheapest fees in the universe and membership lasts forever."

Here are some random ideas I had in the last ten minutes:
Weather - score tha captures sunshine, rain, tornadoes, clouds. Twister, sure, but there are others out there.
Sword and Sandal - from Ben Hur to Troy, maybe even Conan
Funky Ethnic-style music - Let's see how fast we can get tired of the duduk! Children of Dune, Troy, Rome, Gladiator, BSG
Superhero/Comic adaptation day - Superfriends and Road to Perdition, makes sense to me
Food tracks - Tracks about food, or eating, or from movies about food and eating. Just type "food" into the search menu. Or "apple." Be creative. |

I think these are all great ideas. I know I enjoyed the "a-z" composer / title day we did a few weekends ago... it was fun trying to organize the letters in order we got mixed up a couple of time, but that made it more fun...
Looking forward to more of this interaction.

Hey! Isn't next year a leap year? That means that we should try to think of some sort of special theme day for that. Hurry, only seven months left.
What kind of music says "hey, there's an extra day this year?" Maybe bonus tracks, though those are few and far between. Songs that mention the year, or calendar? Songs that talk about leaping? Anything about the five epagomenal days at the end of the Ancient Egyptian year. (Down! Bad PhD!)
Or maybe it would be a good time for pirate music, since it is Frederick's Birthday. I refer, of course, to the Pirates of Penzance, in which the main character's birthday, falling on leap year, is an important plot point. We don't have that score, but there should be plenty of other pirate music around.

Of course, we'd probably have to come up with a ninja day, to keep to delicate internet balance between the factions.
Or what else can we think of? |

I've got a wonderful idea !
What about a Buffy day ?
.... nevermind
Random ideas : "decade year theme : pick a series of themes by series of year like 1960-1970-1980-1990-2000 or 1963-73-83-93-03 etc. ... To see the evolution in time.
"childhood day" : back in time with the soundtrack that rocked our childhood _________________ In tartiflette we trust !! |
