I'm hopefully setting off on a 3 year round the world trip in a motorhome next year and will be far away from SST on many occasions  I'm looking for a suggestions list of albums for me to buy to take with me for my personal SST 'Mobile' station  I've already got quite a few, but would love some more suggestions. I know there are the top 100 albums but was interested in what other people would take if they could only take a few albums? |

Ooooh what a good question. I'm sure many people can relate to this. We've probably all had to decide what to add to our mp3 players, etc. when taking off on a vacation.
How about Planet Earth by Fenton?
Maybe some compilations by several of your favorite composers?
What an amazing journey and adventures you have ahead of you! And enough time to really soak up local cultures. (One of my fave modes of travel too ... "Have microwave, will travel".
Hopefully you will check in here with us when you do get a chance to log into the internet.

It would help to know what scores you already enjoy and what scores you already plan on taking with you on the trip. That way those who respond have a better idea of the type of music you enjoy and can make better recommendations.
I enjoy a variety of scores and would assume action oriented scores would be more enjoyable for an around the world traveling adventure, but you may already have something in mind.
I think Alien gives a pretty darn good list and I would recommend several from her list as well, but as I mentioned a little more guidance will help fine tune the recommendations.

I'd try to take soundtracks from all around the world, but as Nate said, it depends heavily on your personal tastes!

Thanks all for the replies and the great list Alien.
Web Site and Blog, hopefully I'll post a message when its done and working.
Our route will be east from England through Europe across Russia to Vladivostock, ship to Japan, hopefully back to China then onto south east asia before shipping to Australia and NZ, over to South America up through Central America (or at least where we can) and then onto the US before shipping for NYC to Southampton. Anyone fancy providing a parking space for us en route please let us know!!

Id definetely take E.S. Posthumus and Clint Mansell's The Fountain maybe... and some absolute classical sound, like Pride&Prejudice by Dario Marianelli. 
Enjoy the trip anyway. (Do you come to hungary too?)

Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions I'm ordering a few of the albums suggested as we speak!
To Szilvi: We spent a month in Hungary last year en route to the Black Sea following the Danubbe from Germany to the BS. Loved it! We were in Budapest during the 'riots' (When we were there it seemd more a carnival than a riot!) We absolutely loved Budapest, it really is a fantastic city and we certainly will return. |
