I've just read that Arthur C Clarke has passed away at the age of 90 on the BBC website.

I have been a science fiction fan for many years and Arthur Clarke's "A Fall Of Moondust" was the first science fiction novel I ever read. I was hooked and went on to read many of his brilliant books including the likes of the "Rama" series, the "Odyssey" series and stand alone books like "Childhood's End" and "The Light Of Other Days".
Probably the highest accolade I could offer is that it was his books that first got me into reading in a serious way.

His writing will be sorely missed.

I have to admit that I didn't read much of his works... but still I feel that a great writer has passed.
IMHO this is the true mark of the passing of a giant... even people who're none too familiar with his works took note that it happened.
I'm sorry if this sounds unfriendly... I don't mean it that way.

As a great science-fiction fan, I've never found one of his books who wasn't enjoyable. It's one of the rare authors that I've tried to read in english, with great pleasure.

This is a great loss for the litterature Sad

Absolutely agreed, same for me...

I've known the name for a long time. I've been affiliated with some sci-fi clubs and he was always one of the choice authors.

Definately.

Arthur C. Clarke gave the human species a pragmatic look into societal philosophies and judgements. He was one of a handful of authors that really made me think. I will certainly miss his scientific wisdom.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

Arthur C. Clarke, "Profiles of The Future", 1961 (Clarke's third law)

Check out other quotes from Mr Clarke.
