I had to work (sing...) in Berlin last week and discovered a little second-hand-CD-shop. They had a huge amount of recordings of all genres, and they had a little soundtrack corner as well. And guess what I found: TROY by Gabriel Yared!!!    
Yes, I know, it should not be available at all. And I have to admit it looks a little bit like a fake, but well done. The movie pictures are really good, the CD itself looks like an original one, but my feeling says it's wrong, although it is good it is a little bit too less perfect...
But I have to say: the music is overwhelming and incredibly good!!!! 
I do not know where they have it from (I asked, because I knew it is actually not available, but I did not get any answer...), and there were some more CDs which I would really doubt to be officially available (some complete recordings of "James Bond - Casino Royale", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom", "The Mummy" and things like that...).
So: Does anybody know anything about TROY by Gabriel Yared? Could it be an original one? Is it possible that somebody got a demo or a promo or something like that from the composer? Or was there any release of parts of the score? How could it be??  
I'm only personally interested in that questions - I really enjoy the CD very much at all!!! And maybe I'm the only person to have it?! |

As far as I know : Gabriel Yared has put his rejected music available in his internet website, but the producters have ask him to stop, because he hadn't the right to do so.
Meanwhile, some people edited this music from the site illegaly to make it a CD, which spread very quickly thanks to the internet.
You can even buy it on ebay...
I've hear it and it's really amazing. Yared is a great composer but his music is not very known.
If I'm not mistaken, JERIC has the music, but can't of course add it on SST listening list.

masked_playtpus has the correct account of the situation. I think there was actually a promo, but for the most part it has been people who took the music from Yared's site (which he didn't have the right to do, but did it because he was so angered by the rejection and how he was treated) and have now been selling the score via ebay and other places.
I would say that the version you have is a boot and thus it is probably not a good idea to be discussing it Hopefully one day it will be released officially as it is, for the most part, a very good score (this coming from a guy who generally doesn't care for Yared's work). But, being that the question has been well answered and I don't want this going off in the wrong direction I shall go ahead and lock this thread.
