Thinking of moving your iTunes Library to another drive?
Unless you have a gazillion-megabyte computer, you might be like me and many other people who realize their main HD is quickly filling up with music (and picture & video) files. Soooo… I purchased one of those great Western Digital My Book external hard drives to transfer them to, and jumped right in.
Unfortunately I made one common mistake that evidently many others do, and ended up having to start all over again. Things are fine now, thanks to a couple of excellent “how to” articles. Hopefully these will help you do it right the first time.
Moving Your iTunes Library
1. "Transferring Your iTunes Library" - One of the best sections was "Moving Your Content to a New Hard Drive: The Wrong Way"! It helped me un-do the goof and re-do the transfer the proper way. Never assume anything!
2. "How to Move Your iTunes Library to an External Drive" - Another excellent article from a person with a little different method.
Western Digital MY BOOK External Hard Drives
Works with both Windows & Mac OS.
These small, good-looking, simple-to-use external hard drives are available at Amazon. Costco and many other sources carry them, but Amazon seems to have the lowest prices, especially if you have Amazon Prime free shipping! The 500 GB drive is currently $84 but you can get a 1 TB for only $118! |
