Dear Ladies & Gentleman,

does anyone of you know the novels by Karl May about Winnetou and Old Shatterhand? No, I know. So far they only have been heros in germany.

Anyway: in the 1960s a great composer, Martin Boettcher, did the score for about 8 Winnetou movies. Probably, no, I'm sure, the best soundtrack ever done for a german production. Even more famous than Doldingers "Das Boot" for example.

The Mescalero-Chief Winnetou, performed by the french actor Pierre Brice, and Old Shatterhand, played by the unforgotten Lex Barker (Tarzan), try to prevent the distinction of the red nation in the end of the nineteenth century. Although they succeed to win their adventures, in the end they get overwhelmed by what we call "history" now. The movies show some kind of an "indian fairy-tale".

The score by Martin Boettcher is absolutly incredible! Although about 40 years old it is still convincing! It will catch your heart in the very first moment you listen to the "Winnetou"-theme.

Would it be possible to have this soundtrack on streamingsoundtrack, too? Please, please, please - I assure, you won't regret it!

Some more information about the movies and the score you can find here:

Thanks for your kindness.

Yours sincerely

Dear Ladies, dear Gentlemen,

it took some time, but in the end I found some legal samples of Martin Boettchers "Winnetou"-score.

http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/home/detail/-/hnum/8580849/iampartner/b36

On the following site please go down to the bottom of it, where you will find the term "Inhalt" (content).

There is a list of tunes in wma-files (10-15sec. each). They can be played with Windows Mediaplayer.

Please try #8 (Winnetou Melody) and #1 (Old Shatterhand Melody) first, they will give you the best idea of the whole track.

Enjoy! Smile
Itze

I totally second that. Growing up German - with the movies on TV every year for Christmas - you just react to this music like Pawlow's dog. It's good and has all the quality of a real dramatic score. I don't think everyone should watch the movies..... and read the books only if you have time on your hands and historic accuracy is not your pet peeve.. but the score is great.

Hello! Very Happy

Well, almost forgotten this, but yesterday accidentally I found two nice links giving an idea, what Martin Boettchers score is like.

Old Shatterhand

Winnetous End
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWE-OKd_Wmk&fmt=18 Crying or Very sad
Filmed at locations in Croatia and Serbia (formerly known as Yugoslawia).

Do some of you like it?

Hello tinkerbelle,
this seems to become a thread of germans remembering their childhoods and long winter afternoons in front the tv-sets, hhmm? Wink

Do you know, if & how it is possible to donate a boettcher-cd to sst?

Hello molossus,
yes, there was not much time for listening to SST, sorry. Embarassed

Oh yeah, the books were really famous. Nowaddays it's Harry Potter, but some kids are still keen on Karl May.
In 1975 I went to Yugoslawia with my parents (holidays) and we visited a few filmsets. One was near Zagreb (Nugget-Tsil like), the other one were the waterfalls of Plitvice. Almost 35 years are over, but I still remember quite well. Impressive landscape. Cool

Well, there is much more on youtube. Laughing

All the best!

Maybe someone could create a poll first, if the CDs should be added and then we could try to get enough people together for the money Smile
