As the 'oscypek' tastes as good as it looks we won't have to starve. Maybe Sirius passes Zakopane on the way to Krakow and can he bring some. _________________

Takes note to include a visit to Zakopane _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

It's worth it - just to see Tatra Mountains.
BTW: If you plan a bit longer trip Sirius, I can recommend visiting Wieliczka salt mine near Krakow ("the only mining site in the world functioning continuously since the Middle Ages"). Here are some pics from under the ground. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Siri, I think your trip has to be extended with another week Poland has so many beautiful places you can add places-to-see as much as you want. I just saw Molossus' link to the minesite and looked at the photogallery. It really seems worth a visit, so maybe I plan a trip there as well. (not necessarily during festival but perhaps during a preparation visit ?) _________________

So true. Last time I visited Poland was during an one week school trip to Warsaw and surroundings.
Although I have to have some vacation days reserved for another trip to L.A. for John Williams in september _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

Wieliczka is a must see! It's in the UNESCO's List of World Heritage Sites and it's definitely one of the most impressing places in Poland.
And if you are interested there are more Sites of World Heritage not far away from Krakow.
I mean:
1. Dunajec River Gorge (I've been there and recommend - you take the wooden canoe trip to see all the beauty of that area). It's from Tentative UNESCO's List.
2. German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz Birkenau.
3. Wooden Churches of Southern Little Poland.
4. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska
BTW: Krakow's Centre is also in the UNESCO's list!
Being in Zakopane would be great to find a time to take a mountain trip or at least have an easy walk into (for example) Dolina Koscieliska (I didn't find info in english) or to go up by cable car to Kasprowy Wierch. One of the most popular places in Polish Tatra Mountains is also Morskie Oko. _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

Molossus, I only have time for 4 days
It sounds great to visit them all but I'm afraid it has to be another time. But maybe we can visit Poland ahead of the EG. _________________

I agree there will be not much time. The list is just to help you choose one or two places _________________ <i>"The piano keys are black and white,

The more I read about it in this thread, the more I want to go there!
I'll try to figure out how I can make it possible - just let me now the fixed dates! _________________ It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.

Some of us will be there the whole event. But we try at least to be in full strength in the weekend and especially the day of the Lord of the Rings show. Last year it was on the final day. I assume it will be on the final day in 2010 as well, so try to be there on saturday (in case they decide to show it on saturday evening) and sunday.
btw it would be nice if you will be there. _________________ That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)
