An interesting part of this is that the RIAA is not going after people who download but rather the people who serve. They are sending the message that the possesion of illegal copies of thier copyrighted material is OK but to share it is not. This is wrong in my opinion. If they want to attack the problem then they need to attack all the users. If you share 5 files or 5,000 makes no difference. Theft of intelecual property is theft no matter how you look at it.

I see their point. They're going after the pushers not the addicts. But, you are right too jk, theft is theft, anyway you look at it.

It is the same as saying it is wrong to sell heroin but it IS OK to use it. And they are only going after the ones serving up more than 1000 tracks. Makes me wonder just what they see as "acceptable".

I don't steal music at all. But I know people who do... what can the RIAA offer me Wink

Seriously though. if they could only start selling cd's for about ten bucks, here and over seas, i bet sharing would loose some of its popularity. Personally, I would like a real CD with the album art, and track listings rather than a ripped one. oh well.

Well, Universal Music Group just dropped over 90% of their CD's down to a retail of 12 bucks. So we'll see.

Personally I like the business model that Apple seems to be using where you download and pay only for the songs that you want. I think it is about 99 cents (US) per song. Too often there is only one or 2 tracks on albums that I want anyway to justify even the $10 that Lego has suggested. I may be wrong about who is running this service but It is a model I like.
