Obviously there are many loyal Morricone fans in the house that is SST.
It's funny, of all the Score junkies I know, I don't think there is one that doesn't consider Morricone a master. He helped change the way movies are heard.
Look at all the composers who pilfer from him. I doubt there is a working composer out there who wasn't in some way influenced by Morricone's stuff.
Every once in a while he evolves and comes up with something you've never heard before. From the classic "spaghetti" westerns to the playful themes in "My Name Is Nobody" to the more forceful "Sicilian Clan". All extremely different.
Then there is just plain 'ol transcendence. "The Mission" is one of the most beautiful scores ever composed. His sound palette is inexhaustible and all inclusive.
Suffice it to say BQ, he's just not for you. If you don't like him that's cool.
But Morricone's music is very far from something that "sucks".
Also - Harry Palmer ! The name and the avatar are absolute genius!
loved you in The Ipcress File. |

I am among the fans too, but like any composer he has good and bad... Another EM score that I love is Marco Polo... Doesn't get alot of play because alot of folks don't know it, but I love that score!
I find he does subtle and broad and OVER broad very well! And yes the Mission is wonderful too, just love the wind instruments in Marco Polo.

I gotta say: "Once upon a time in the West"-theme is one of Ennio Morricones best. But then, I don't list music in what I like the most.
Ennio Morricone is the greatest European filmmusic composer yet.
