Recently I noticed that the albums Independence Day and Star Trek got an upgrade to the extended versions.

Quite possibly that happened to other albums too, but these were the two where I personally noticed... Smile

The thing is, the ratings for the previous version, meaning the unextended one, were carried over to the longer albums.
You see, I have this personal obsession that I'll only rate an album once I have listened to every single track (...well, I do make exceptions for albums that I hate very, very much. Razz )

So, the question is: shouldn't the ratings be reset when a normal version gets replaced with an extended one? After all, there tends to be a whole lot of new music on such albums and thereby making it quite a bit different from the shorter version.

In case you couldn't tell, I think so. It's just a thought... Wink

I vote "no", cause I've never heard so far an extended album that change my opinion about a score. If I loved it, then I'm very happy to have more tracks to listen to. If I disliked it, the new tracks won't give it much.

I can follow Alien's thoughts on this one, and partly agree but I don't think it's necessary to have a whole new ratingsession.
maybe you can just add a comment on the thread of the first ratingpoll.

Or better: write a review over the expanded score.
Then others can read what is different according to the original other than longer.

Hear, hear! Written reviews are almost always better than ratings, just for the extra material they contain. And if you think that the expanded score is better/not as good as the original release, you can tell your audience why.

I voted yes. Extended albums will -almost- always get a rating upgrade from me. I agree it's probably not a critical change, however.

OK, OK.
So very few people share my pet issues.
That's fine, really.
I can totally handle different points of view.
