Man. I put this thread here specifically so Cocles could poop all over what is now my new "one of my favorite movies" movie. I loved it. I give it 5 stars, out of 5, of course. I saw it mostly 'cause I like Russell Crowe but was pleasantly surprised and liked the doctor guy a lot more than old Crowe. Eep! I am feeling girly.
So whatever, Cocles, go on and say something bad about it like you do about every other movie I like. Damn you! ...now what was that doctor's name again...?
Edit: Oh, and I liked the soundtrack. It was very classical feeling and had violins and some other instrument that I forgot the name of because I am musically retarded. :P |

Looks like I beat him to it... not quite though, cause I haven't seen the movie yet. Even still, I invoke the right to complain a bit.
I've seen the trailer several times and I'm still at a loss. I have no idea what the movie actually is about. They sail, there is a storm and they fire their cannons against another ship. All good and well but where is the story in all this? This in one of the worst trailers I've seen, because it leaves me with the idea that it's a movie with no plot and some off-the-shelf visual effects (leftover waves from The Perfect Storm). For me the movie seems really boring and I most likely wont go see it... based purely on the trailer. _________________ "Anything one man can imagine,

Don't worry Gecko, I haven't seen it yet.
And where did I get this reputation for not liking movies? Hell I tore into Yvond for disliking SeaBiscuit. |

You suck. Trailers are obviously all retarded! Either they hype you up for the movie only to disappoint you, or they make you think the movie is going to be stupid and then you don't go to it. You should go see it. Perfect Storm was THE MOST STUPIDEST MOVIE ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET. There was only one small storm scene like in Perfect Storm. It's not constant stupidity like that movie. It's cool. Go see it. Or I'll do something bad to you or something.
Coc: Oh, I don't know, it just seems like every movie I like, you dislike. Seabiscuit was okay. Slightly sappy for my tastes but okay. The thumping horse noises were great in the theater. |

Welcome back Yvond.
I didn't care too much for it. Very par for me.
Nicolas Nickelby was the best movie I've seen this year. _________________ "Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?." -Maximus

Master and Commander was ok, but not up to Russell Crowe's par level. After Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind, I came to expect more from this movie. Not to mention it's length, 2 hours and 20 minutes, which I fell asleep for about 15 minutes of.
Paul Bettany plays the doctor, and friend of Russell Crowe's character, Lucky Jack. He was also in a Beautiful Mind with him; he will most likely get an Oscar nod for supporting actor, however, the movie and Russell Crowe should not.
Don't get me wrong, I liked the movie overall - I'd give it 3/4 stars, but don't think it's as good as Gladiator or Beautiful Mind.
If you want to see a great movie check out "The Gospel According to John" It is wonderful. No flashy/gawdy hollywood tricks, all very simple cinematic tactics during miracles, and the actor who plays Jesus is simply phenomonal. OK, that's my two cents, feel free to quote and rip me. _________________ "When you look into the eyes of a wolf you see into your soul. Hope you like what you see..." Aldo Leopold |

I have to agree with you Trin, Crowe was much better in Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind... I mostly just liked the doc. He ruled. |

In Gladiator, russle was great, and so was he in Master and Commander. But the movie wasn't a big deal... I didn't like the movie as much as i thought i would since crow takes his roles quite seriously.
Nevertheless, the sound design was unbelievable. Great job. |
