Let me say for a start that what I want to write here is a low priority thing. Just a small feature to add to SST website if people are interested.
The idea came to me while listening to Kaczmarek's music from Finding Neverland today. I think it could be neat to have a small icon (symbol) referring to Oscar Award for Oscar awarded scores in SST's library. Something similar to our "Sexiest contest winner" symbols in members' profiles.
I think we could have such a symbol in "Now Playing" window when a track from Oscar awarded album is on air or (if it's not a good idea to add new things to "Now Playing" window) we could place Oscar symbol at Album's info page. After hovering over that symbol we could get additional short message like "Oscar-winning score" or something like that. I think Oscar icon could be yellow or gold to fit the webpage's layout nice.
Number of Oscar-winning albums is not that huge so amount of work to be done to implement this little idea probably would not be very big, either.
Of course one could also think about just "award" icon (symbol) and about including not only Oscars but also other film music awards info to SST's database but that would be a lot more work to implement.
What do you think folks? Is it worth SST's Crew time at all?

I think it would be a nice little additional feature. Would be cool if it gets added. But only if it wouldn't be too much work for our great SST-team.
Adding symbols for other awards would also be need or at least if the score won an Golden Globe.
Just not sure if you can use that trademark just for free. Not familiar with that things. |

And then you have the Teen Choice Awards, the Foreign Press Awards... Tonys, Grammys, the BAFTAS... and then you have the gamer sound tracks. I'm sure the gaming industry has their own slew of awards that are given out. Pretty soon the album listing is looking like the Bloomberg channel.
That being said, I think it's a neat idea... but if done, would need to be done in some nice easy way, especially since it's information that wouldn't be there for most of the albums out there.
It's a fine line... neat idea, but could get out of hand. |

Maybe we could put something about awards on the album page itself. Then we could list all sorts of things without it being too much bother. Then maybe a hotlink, so if you click on "Oscar" it would give you a list of winners. Or not. There are a gazillion awards out there, and the imdb page for any movie will give you a comprehensive list, including score stuff.

I love the idea of the Oscar noms/winners, and maybe Golden Globes as well. |

I think making mention of award-winning scores is a good idea, at least in general. I'm just not convinced that Oscars and Golden Globes are the most telling awards for soundtracks. The World Soundtrack Awards, bestowed by the World Soundtrack Academy, might be a better (but certainly not the only) choice for awards to highlight. Then again, I don't think this body awards video game and tv scores. So, like others, I'm torn on how the idea should be implemented.

Maybe there is a way even, to implement it letting the users fill in the info? (I'm not sure it's more like Pesadelo's realm here for me).

Update:
Brought this up with JERIC and Admins. He prefers to have icons for just the SST Awards nominees and winners. Don't know when it will be implemented as it is still a low priority item.
