Since my nickname constist of my initals "bpe" and my hometown "Wien" (=Vienna, Austria), I usually got the "bp" shortcut like Bhelpuri did.
And it's completely okay. He's "big BP", I'm the "little bp"
"Wien" is pronounced "Veen". So basically if you wanted to say the complete nickname, it probaly would sound something like "baypayveen" _________________ If our music survives, which I have no doubt it will,

Just found this thread today and quite enjoyed looking through it! I had quite a few wrong I'm ashamed to say.
My name is pronounced Zee-Girl-forty-nine. Usually shortened to just Zgurl (zee-girl) or ZG (zee-gee) (although I sometimes pronounce in my head as ZeGuh) _________________ Dream as if you'll live forever, live as if you'll die tomorrow. - James Dean |

Way to go subject Jeff,
Let's go for Dutch-bat
The Dutch part is logically phonetically: [Du:tsj]
The Bat-part is on SST: [ be:t ]
Other extensions used on other sites are -bad,-bet,
-bit, -bid depending on the nature of the site.
Prefer to be called Dutch rather than Bat. _________________

Dunno, if that's needed, but let's give it a try teaching you some german phonetics
first: Sock... sock is =sock obviously and one might make the "s" a bit more voiced... like "zock"
"en"... err like the "en" in "Ken" (from Barbie and Ken) so you could go with Zo-ken or Zoc-ken (double k= ck isn't really pronounced as two ks in this word)
so Socken is a bit like Zok'N like Zok'N'Roll
"Fussel": it's Foo-zel, but not with a long "oo"/u sound, but rather short "u"/oo like in "foot": foot-sel without "t" if you like
the "zel" is like in "Selma" with voice "s"
so all together now: listen and repeat:
Zok'N'Foo-zel
well done _________________ Labwork and scientific experience tell me: Nothing is really foolproof for a sufficiently talented fool.

I had seen the topic back a few months ago and I've been using the right pronunciations since (didn't you notice in the chatbox?).
My nickname is pronounced as follows:
"Ghoast" (as in toast) (it has a lot of silent vowels and consonants at the end)
People who know me personally sometimes pronounce it as:
"Roo-bn"
or in Dutch
"Rchue-ban" (ch as in loch, it's a rolling R)
In Arizona it is pronounced as:
"Ghoat" or "Ghist" _________________ Music is not just made of sounds. It is also made of silence. |

That would make his previous name "Angel-eyes" particularily nasty. |
